Afternoon Tea with Raymond Antrobus

Grab a cuppa and get to know award-winning poet Raymond Antrobus. Raymond will be in conversation with poet Victoria Adukwei Bulley to discuss his work and career and will offer a glimpse into his creative routine.

In conjunction with our Poetry and Spoken Word Group

This will take place online via Zoom with live captioning and BSL interpretation.

 

 

Feel Good Friday - Stretch at Your Desk

Fitness professional and author Tina Baker specialises in fun, functional exercises you can do at your desk. With 17 years’ experience teaching older bodies, bodies with issues and fellow desk-bound creatives, exercise has transformed her body and mental health.

Enjoy a walk through London’s history, seeing sights from pubs to churches and statues associated with some of the greatest writers.

Professional Development - Tax Talk with HW Fisher

HW Fisher is hosting a session led by consultant Barry Kernon, to help people understand how to deal with tax minefields. This session will cover tackling tax returns, VAT, and Making Tax Digital (MTD) – the digital filing of income tax and VAT returns.

Join SoA Publishing Contracts AdvisorJohanna Clarke, as she talks through the key things to be aware of when navigating an author/agent relationship from an advisory perspective. She will advise on initial considerations when starting out, what you should and shouldn’t be expecting from your agent, the importance and implications of your agency agreement and some considerations for when leaving or moving agencies.

 

 

Professional Development - How to Read a Royalty Statement

This SoA @ Home event, run by our Head of the Contracts Advisory Team, Sarah Burton, and our Head of Finance, Katharine King, will unpack how to read your statement alongside your publishing contract and break down opaque terminology. Professional Development - Your Writing Journey - From Ideas to Bookshelves

Join authors Frances Mensah Williams (From Pasta to Pigfoot, Imperfect Arrangements, The Second Time We Met), and Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah (The Sex Lives of African Women), for the first event in Everything I Know About Writing, a unique webinar series for writers and aspiring writers everywhere. Between them, they’ve published scores of articles in magazines, literary and news publications, created an award-winning e-zine and blog, and written nine books including non-fiction, novels, and novellas.

All sessions are free to attend for members.
We invite all attendees of our free events to make a small donation to the Authors’ Contingency Fund if you can afford to do so.
