Cleckheaton Writers Group (CWG) met on Monday night 5.30-7pm at Cleckheaton Library with Cassie, Gemma, Karen, Kathy, Michelle and new member Dali in attendance, Alice and Barbara having passed on their apologies.
CWG members introduced themselves and Dali gave the group her background in poetry with a themed class and as a member of Huddersfield/Dewsbury Creative Arts.
The previous minutes were agreed as a correct record.
WIP updates: Karen has applied for a NSSF Academy place. Gemma has been editing. Cassie has written a drabble and two short stories. Kathy told members about someone she works with who is appearing on PAOTY and Michelle has also written a drabble.
CW comps/workshops/events: The Curtis Brown Creative Scholarships deadline is 30 October, this week is Pro Writing Aid Romance Week, plus The Discoveries Prize and Write Now Penguin. The Contemporary Artist Competition in Art was also mentioned.
Feedback session: Michelle shared her drabble using the October theme of Halloween/Ghosts which was well received as was Cassie's as yet untitled drabble. A few suggestions were made for both and it was decided that the November theme should be Fireworks/Harvest Festival (thanksgiving).
Writing plans: Karen and Gemma will be editing. Karen is considering taking part in NaNoWriMo and Gemma contemplating writing a drabble. Cassie will be undertaking U3A writing challenges, Kathy will write a drabble and look to more editing on her Tobias MS. Michelle will write a short story and edit her article.
There was a discussion about the Nostradamus book and the film Trick R Treat.
Writing challenge: The November theme is - Fireworks/Harvest Festival (thanksgiving).
The next meeting will take place on Monday 7 November 2022.
