Taking us into October, award winning Tall Stories perform Oscar Wilde's spine-chilling ghost story, The Canterville Ghost (Fri 30 Sept - Sat 1 Oct). If new writing is more your thing, head down to watch cutting edge chillerShock Horror (Wed 5 Oct) and socially engaged dramatic thrillerDead Cats (Tue 11 Oct). 

We're hosting inspirational talks by climber Leo Houlding (Tue 4 Oct) and ITV's Dr Amir Khan (Thu 27 Oct), and welcome comedian Mark Simmons (Sat 1 Oct) to our studio - but hurry - only a few tickets left!

Keep the family entertained at the weekend with the classic Wind in the Willows (Sat 8 Oct) followed by The Bubble Show (Sun 9 Oct).

October half term is popular for audience led shows, with family friendly performances of You Choose and The Discount Comedy Checkout Improvised Family Show (Sat 29 Oct), and for the grown-ups, Shoecake Comedy Club (Fri 21 Oct) and Spontaneous Potter (Fri 28 Oct).

The Canterville Ghost

Tall Stories perform Oscar Wilde’s spine-chilling ghost story for your delight and delectation. Interspersed with their own sensational acts, a comedian, a magician, a psychic and their charismatic compere tell the story of Sir Simon de Canterville, who disappeared mysteriously 300 years ago – after being accused of murder. 

 

Mark Simmons: Quip off the Mark

Mark’s parents have sold the house he grew up in and he has to collect his box of stuff from the loft. Come discover what’s in the box in this top-level one-liner show structured in a way you’ve never seen before.

Leo Houlding: Closer to the Edge

Leo Houlding is one of the world’s best climbers; big walls, Everest, triple peaks in as many days, you name it, Leo’s probably climbed it! With a brief overview of his life, Leo’s brand new show will focus on his more recent ascent of Mount Roraima, the high, rain forest-engulfed, South American plateau which inspired Arthur Conan Doyle’s 
The Lost World.

Dead Cats

In rooms like this room people lie. Not little lies, the kinds of lies that kill people, or worse…

Dead Cats blends new writing, performance, film-making, and an obvious plant, to show – not tell – the truths behind the fictions. Dead Cats is part of Proto-type’s critically acclaimed Truth to Power Project – a socially engaged exploration of power, democracy, truth-telling, protest, privacy, conspiracy, and control.

 

 

Shoe Cake Comedy Club

The Shoe Cake Comedy Club makes a welcome return this month with their 100% raw improvisation.  Headlined by The Discount Comedy Checkout, you can expect to see TV favourites Chris Lumb, Natalie Smeaton and Phil Smith, starring alongside Eddie French, Tom King and Mandy McCarthy.

A line-up of fantastic stand up opens the show before the improv begins.

 

An Evening with Dr Amir Khan

Live on stage, Dr Amir Khan will detail his journey to becoming a doctor. He’ll share a riveting account of patient consultations in the NHS, painting a profoundly revealing portrait of healthcare in twenty-first century Britain. Alongside funny, emotional, and downright bizarre stories of patient encounters, Dr Amir will bring the doctors surgery to you, tackling seemingly personal and often challenging subjects in a relaxed and practical manner. 

 

 

Spontaneous Potter: The Unofficial Improvised Parody

Grab your wands, house robes, and apparate yourselves to the box office!

The smash hit Spontaneous Potter is an entirely improvised wizarding comedy play, based on an audience suggestion of a fanfiction title. Hilarity ensues as an entirely new Potter adventure is magically improvised on the spot – with live musical accompaniment!

The Discount Comedy Checkout Improvised Family Show

Winner of the ‘Best National Show‘ Award at Morecambe Fringe 2020, The Discount Comedy Checkout is a fun 60 minute comedy show for the entire family. It focusses on bringing to life many of the children’s ideas and stories with the help of three talented comedy improvisers – Chris Lumb (Russell Howard’s Good News), Natalie Smeaton (Britain’s Got Talent) and Phil Allan-Smith (BBC1: This is MY House).

All the stories and ideas the kids come up with will be created in front of your very eyes. There’s even a chance for them to take to the stage and join in the storytelling fun – all they need is their imagination and allow Chris, Natalie, and Phil to do the rest!

 

 

You Choose

Based on the brilliant book by Pippa Goodhart and Nick Sharratt, Nonsense Room Productions (Shark in the Park and Hairy Maclary shows) bring you a brand new interactive musical show for all the family. But in this show – YOU CHOOSEwhat happens!

Using the picture book as inspiration and through a series of games and challenges, each show will be unique with different characters, locations, costumes and much more every time!

A family go on an expedition of a lifetime, running down the grassy bank, wading through the cold river, squelching over the oozy mud, stumbling into the dark forest, then peering into a cave… what will they find? 

Little Angel Theatre brings Michael Rosen’s thrilling and funny adventure to life in this entrancing puppetry production.

The dynamic young percussionist Joby Burgess, whose playing can be heard on major film and TV scores notably leading the percussion sections on Black Panther, Rocketman, Ad Astra, Mission: Impossible, The Darkest Hour, Dr Who and The Green Planet, performs his new album, A Percussionist’s Songbook.

INDIs Halloween Triple Bill

Suit up in your scariest outfits and join the INDIs Movie Nights Halloween triple bill. Starting with family favourite Ghost Busters (1984) at 1pm, followed by cult classic Scream (1996) at 4pm, and ending with everyone's favourite comedy zombie movie Shaun of the Dead at 7pm.

Between Scream and Shaun of the Dead, show off your spooky general knowledge with our horror movie quiz, and be in the chance to win a prize.

Tickets are £5 per film, or watch all three for just £9! The event will take place at The Carriageworks Theatre on Sunday 30 October.
