Wilderness Ireland

Uniquely Irish

Ireland has long been known for our pubs, whiskey and Guinness, our stories of giants and fairies, good old St Patrick, shamrocks and all things green.

It is a place of friendly locals, warm hospitality, stunning landscapes and thudering coastlines. This is an island full of fascinating folklore, amazing authors, playwrights and poets, and home to supurb artists and craftspeople. Rainbows and sheep, mountains and coasts, pubs, whiskeys and craft beer and traditonal music - it's all here. For such a small island, Ireland has had a big impact.

To put it lightly, Ireland is our absolute favourite place on the planet and we hope to welcome you here again once it's safe to do so.

Slainte!

Best Wishes,

Louise

Creative Kirklees Newsletter 4 January 2022

Welcome to our first newsletter for 2022. If you’re looking for a fresh start or a new challenge we have some great ideas for you this week.

Perhaps you’d like to take up drawing or painting this year.  Take a look at the classes run by Jamie Frost in Holmfirth – many are booking up but there are still places showing on the Monday life drawing class. Sign up for the Globe Arts non-tutored life drawing class on 30 January in Slaithwaite. Or join a free a creative workshop with artist, Kerry Lemon to celebrate the past, present and future of textiles in Dewsbury.  Looking ahead to February, artist Puy Soden is starting new Painting for Well-being workshops in Huddersfield, suitable for adults of all levels of experience and beginners are especially welcome.

If you want to be entertained there is theatre and music aplenty. The first Lunchtime Chamber Concert of the year takes place in Dewsbury on 19 January with Alice Zawadzki, a singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist. And of course, January wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the pantomime - Huddersfield Light Opera Company are at the Lawrence Batley Theatre (LBT) from 8 January with Beauty and the Beast.

For those looking for a new job or artist commission the LBT are seeking a Development Assistant and commissions include artists wanted for the Kirkwood Snowdogs projects and an experienced film maker wanted by WOVEN for their INTERWOVEN project. Plus there are more on our Opportunities page.

We look forward to keeping in touch over the next year with all the arts and creative activity going on in Kirklees.
