Autumn eats and spooky treats!

It's September, we've just had that long awaited heatwave, and we're looking forward to the golden colours of Autumn.

Here's what you wanna Eat, Drink and Do this month!

As always we wanna hear what you're interested in, so if you've got a shout then use our socials!
5 minute read

EAT 🍽️

Our pal Manjit's Kitchen [pictured] is celebrating 10 years in the street food game this September! In that time she's gone from a Horsebox at festivals to a prime slot in the markets, and now a vibrant little restaurant on Kirkstall Road in Burley. We're ordering Salt n Pepper Chickpea Fries and a Vada Pav, washed down with her new beer - Manjit's Ten!

Schnitfaced have taken over the menu at Crowd of Favours down on Harper Street. The menu features Moules Frites and Braised Ox Cheek, alongside good, honest pub grub like pies, stews, fish and chips. They've also collaborated with Savvy Baker on the desserts too 🤤check it out!

If you venture out to Horsforth we recommend a visit to Slow Rise Bakery on New Road Side. They roll, boil and bake their traditional bagels, then stuff them with your fave fillings like Salt Beef, Smoked Salmon, and Falafel. There's also an ever changing selection of sweet and savoury bakes, and coffee from Third Wave Roasters. Go get some!

DRINK 🍹

If you're into your drams, or want to learn more about them, then the ever popular Triple Whisk(e)y Sip Along [Pictured] could be for you. You'll get three tastings, three cocktails, and three drams to take away, as three ambassadors take you on a journey through an American, Irish and Scotch whisk(e)y. The event happens at The Tetley on September 24th - get your tickets here!

On Saturday 9th October Leeds Rum Fest is back at the Corn Exchange for its 5th birthday. Your ticket gets you entrance, samples of a host of spirits, access to workshops and entertainment. There'll be local street food too, and if you haven't quenched your thirst there'll be cocktails pouring as well. Follow the link here to get your tickets!

Armley's Anthology Brewing Co. have teamed up with the Brudenell Social Club for an exciting night on 26th September. They'll be launching a new beer which has been created in collaboration with Leeds-based electronic art-pop artist Fwar. It'll be launched exclusively at the Brude alongside Fwar's new album launch show. Find out more about the event here.

DO ✅

CHOW DOWN HALLOWEEN SPESH

Chow Down have gone all out this Halloween, announcing a wicked weekend of live performances to accompany their spookily good line-up of street food.

It promises to be a freaky weekender for the whole family with craft workshops and a fancy dress competition. We fully expect to see you doing the Monster Mash at the family disco too! 👻 Not only that but there's a Drag brunch, and even stilt walkers and fire breathers to keep you entertained into the evenings 🔥

With music from Tsha, Ron Basejam and Loud Noises, and street food from Homeboy Pizza, Mor Mor and Sabrosa Street, this could well be the best Chow Down yet. Get on it!

What do you want from Leeds Indie Food?

The pandemic has changed things for everyone. In the absence of events, we turned our attentions to providing business support, offering an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on, and we're not going to stop now.

To grow and improve as an organisation though, we need your input and feedback. Without you lot, there is no Leeds Indie Food!

What do you want to see from us over the next 12 months? Is there an event you've missed, or a restaurant that deserves our attention? Is there a local producer or artist we should be working with?

Hit up our socials for all the latest and give us your recommendations - we're all ears 👂🏻👂🏽👂🏾👂🏿🦻🏼

Leeds Indie Food Festival will be back better than ever in May 2022.
