The first Cleckheaton Writers Group at Cleckheaton Library since lockdown took place last night with Alice, Barbara, Gemma and Karen in attendance with Cassie having passed on her apologies.
Karen welcomed the members back to Cleckheaton Library and explained there were no minutes from the last Zoom meeting as just Alice and herself were in attendance.
WIP updates: Karen has subbed her crime novel, taken part in #SFFPIT, subbed her first RS novel, edited half of her MG MS, edited up to C10 of her crime novel, entered the Jenny Colgan Curtis Brown opportunity, taken part in #canlitpit, sent her author documentation to her publishers Champagne Book Group, written 15 chapters of her rom com sequel, attended a write mentor editing workshop and literary masterclass. She is also deep into edits of her rom com (slated for digital release in December), subbed a partial of the sequel to RNA NWS, taken part in #pitmad and garnered 5 likes (1 for her YA, 1 for her RS and 3 for her RS sequel). Barbara has started something new, a covid-related lockdown story about a character visiting her father in sheltered housing. Gemma has won an editing mentorship and has 3 months to share 60k words. The process will be sharing so many words at a time, a Zoom meeting and then editing again following feeback. Alice has started work on picture books and has received feedback as part of her picture book course which was good. She has also started a new MG but will be saving this for NaNoWriMo.
Feedback: No-one had brought writing for feedback.
CW workshops and events: Budleigh Salterton Literature Festival is on and there is a The Blair Partnership Twitter Takeover pitch opportunity on Friday. Open Coop will take place on 20 September, the Curtis Brown disabled writers breakthrough scheme is open until 19 September and a FREE workshop by Elle McNichol on neurodiversity in literature will take place on 19 September 7-8pm.
Writing plans: Karen will be continuing her editing, will try and finish her sequel, get her crime novel ready for submission and the first 3 chapters of her YA and 2 RS novels for submission following #pitmad. Alice hopes to write 5.5k words by Saturday and continue work on her picture books. Gemma will be continuing her editing and Barbara will try to continue work on her new WIP.
The next meeting will take place on Monday 20 September at 5.30-7pm at Cleckheaton Library. New members always welcome.
