We have loved welcoming you back into our museum sites over the past months and it’s been great to hear lots of positive feedback from our visitors.

At the National Museum of Flight, visitors have enjoyed exploring the spacious hangars and our open-air spaces: “It was the perfect museum to visit and be confident about maintaining social distancing.” At the National Museum of Rural Life our Annual Pass holders have been delighted to return, to see the museum and visit old and new friends on the farm: “We love visiting this site and we're so happy that it’s open again.”

While at the National Museum of Scotland, the space has offered a momentary escape, with visitors describing it as “pleasant, calm and safe”. Don’t forget, there’s now more to explore at the National Museum of Scotland – we've recently opened our Level 5 galleries, including family favourite Exploring Ancient Egypt and the exquisite Art of Living.

Youth Theatre Autumn/Winter 2020-21
Term Dates: 3 October - 31 January 2021

We know that online workshops will never replace what we can achieve when physically together, but we won't let the current situation stop us making and creating together! We have come up with two different ways to get involved in Youth Theatre this term via online workshops and as always, we are open to new members, anyone aged between 11-19 years old can join us at any time.

FSYT Drop-In Sessions:

All are welcome to these drop-in, relaxed, online workshops even if you can't commit to taking part in our term project of Film:Making. Stay connected in an informal creative way - practise different skills each week, catch up and have a laugh! We will continue to support positive mental health practises, through creativity and connection.

When?

Saturdays 11AM, 3rd Oct and Saturday 10th Oct (via Zoom)

Everyone is encouraged to come along to these TWO workshops!

Hear more from Natalie Quatermass, Youth Theatre Director, about Freedom Studios's Youth Theatre and contribute ideas for the two short films. Even if you cannot commit to the film project, it would be great to get your input at this early stage.

Ongoing Drop In Sessions - Saturdays 11am (via Zoom)

Film:Making

For those looking to get their teeth stuck into a significant, creative project, come join Freedom Studios Youth Theatre as we make two short films this term. Workshops will be delivered through a combination of Zoom and in-person at Kala Sangam.

Youth Theatre will be collaborating with actor, film director and online content creator Tanya Vital . Not only will you write and perform in the films but you will be guided through a production process from fundraising and pitching to screening and dissemination.

When?

Sessions for Film:Making will take place on the following dates -

Thursdays 5PM, 15th Oct – 28th Jan: Filmmaking with Chris Singleton, a combination of Zoom and in person.

Or

Sundays 2PM, 18th Oct – 31st Jan: Filmmaking with Leah Francis, a combination of Zoom and in person.

Full details about all the workshops including dates and times for the whole term can be found on the Registration Form. Freedom Studios Youth Theatre is FREE but you must reserve a place and complete and return The Registration Form.

Please download and complete the Registration Form on our website>>

CV19 Safety:

We are continually evaluating and updating our health and safety policies, in accordance with local and national guidelines and in consultation with the National Association of Youth Theatres. Freedom Studios is committed to minimising COVID-19 risk by ensuring that any activity we offer is as safe as possible. We are going above and beyond all social-distancing guidance. In order to help our members make informed, responsible decisions for themselves, we will consult with you all throughout the term. Before any physical meeting can happen, all practitioners and participants must discuss and agree to the most recent social distancing procedures.

I Am Greta

In August 2018, 15-year-old Greta Thunberg started a school strike for the climate. Her question for adults: if you don’t care about her future on Earth, why should she care about her future in school? Within months, her strike evolved into a global movement.

I Am Greta is an intimate documentary which follows the young eco-warrior through compelling, never-before-seen footage in this intimate documentary from director Nathan Grossman.

See it at Pictureville from 16 October.

Our screening at 14.00 on Sunday 18 October will include a special recorded Q&A with Greta Thunberg.
