October News
from Slung Low
Hello friends,
We are well into
the first term of the Cultural Community College and it has been
great to see the courses being so popular and HUB so lively! There
are still opportunities to get involved and take part in
some of the remaining courses this Autumn. Head over to our website
by clicking here and see if there is anything that you
fancy!
Slung Low’s How To Festival returns this Sunday 7th October
2018 with a distinctly 80s/90s party vibe. How to…Party! will be a
celebration of the way people get together to have a good time – eat,
drink, rave, tell stories, share a magic moment or two.
Find out How To Rave Like RashDash - learn a dance routine for all
bodies and levels of experience with the brilliant Helen Goalen.
Join in with Back to The Hoopla, an interactive workshop-style
performance with hula hoops!
There is limited capacity for some of the events so make sure you
book your place on the individual shows and workshops via our website here.
The festival is
appropriate for people of all ages and no previous experience is required
to take part in any of the workshops! As always at Slung Low, you pay
what you decide.
The HUB performance programme is also in full swing this month. We
welcome Tin-Can People performing Katie
& Pip, which celebrates the relationship between
Katie, a 15-year-old Type 1 Diabetic girl and ‘Pip’ her 5 year old border
collie, trained by Katie to save her life on a daily basis. The date for
your diary is 14th October at 5pm, book your tickets here.
We then present Lands,
a co-production between Bush Theatre and Antler. The award-winning
Antler present a playful, intimate dissection of a relationship teetering
on the edge of collapse. Exploring our inability to understand one
another, and the lands we isolate ourselves on, this is an absurd
tragi-comedy for our times. It performs on the 21st October at 5pm,
tickets are available here.
We are also really excited to be a part of Fuel Theatre's
festival 'Tonight
We Fly' , a city-wide project that takes place all
over Leeds. We are hosting events both at the HUB and The Holbeck and for
all events you pay what you decide. Come and share a meal and a
conversation at the HUB. Join Inua Ellams' R.A.P (Rhythm and Poetry) Party.
Raise a glass to long lost loves and current lovers, to mums to dads and
to absent friends in Love Letters Straight From Your Heart. Experience 80
years of world politics and history with The Preston Bill. Events hosted at Slung Low's
HUB and The Holbeck can be found by clicking here and for information about the complete
project, this can be found here.
Finally we are currently advertising a 5-month paid Producing Internship
opportunity with Slung Low - find out full details on our website here. Please
share with those who might be interested!
We hope that there is something that excites you and look forward to
welcoming you at one of our events soon. As ever you can keep in touch
with us via Facebook and Twitter.
