Tomorrow evening, Wednesday 23 September, at 7pm, Clare and I will be reading and chatting about walking and writing, and about how walking feeds the writing process.
This August, poet Clare Shaw walked the famously bleak and boggy Pennine Way with their daughter, whilst novelist Anna Chilvers walked the Welsh coast with her dog Fern.
Both kept daily accounts of the exhaustion and heat, the choughs and curlews, the ruins and wildfires, memories and encounters. From 7-8pm, they will read from their walking stories, and explore the place of walking in the writing process. Clare will share recent published work about the long-distance walk as a metaphor for resilience and hope - and Anna will consider how landscapes are like stories; and how we can discover plot with our feet.
