Creative Kirklees
Latest Events, News and Opportunities

Wednesday, March 19th

Welcome back to your regular update of all things creative!

As mentioned last week, the Cultural Heart Library Festival: Create.Imagine.Explore continues at various venues in Huddersfield throughout March bringing free creative activities and workshops to the town centre.

There are just 3 concerts remaining in this Season’s Kirklees Concert Season. Enjoy the Organ Concert finale this coming Monday (24 March) when Huddersfield Town Hall Organist David Pipe concludes the organ season. Then there are two particularly lovely orchestral concerts still to come: “Prokofiev, Schumann & Haydn” on Thursday 15 May and the final concert of the season sees the Orchestra of Opera North embark on a journey through space, time and the realms of witchcraft at their concert of Film Music which will take place on the afternoon of Sunday 1 June.

If you’re wondering what to get your Mum for Mother’s Day, we have some lovely ideas for you on the website – how about getting some tickets to a theatre or music performance, or book her onto one of the fabulous workshops in the area, or maybe take her out to one of the exhibitions currently showing.

Finally, if you are running any events or activities over the Easter holidays, please do add them to the site so we can help to promote them for you!

Happy St Patrick's Day

Hi

It’s Monday, so we’ll keep this easy and fun—but we couldn’t let the day pass without wishing you a very Happy St Patrick’s Day!

For one day each year, the world turns its gaze towards Ireland—its culture, traditions, and, of course, its far-reaching diaspora. For a small island, Ireland certainly leaves a big impression, with its rich literary heritage, legendary musicians, celebrated actors, world-class athletes, and global influencers.

And it’s not just the people—it's the culture, too. Some of the most vibrant St Patrick’s Day parades take place in the US and Canada, while landmarks from Australia to Brazil glow emerald green in tribute. In Chicago, the river runs a dazzling shade of green, and Irish words like sláinte and céad míle fáilte echo in every toast. (And in Ontario, Canada, home to the only Irish Gaeltacht outside of Ireland, entire conversations take place in the ancient Irish language!)

Meanwhile, Irish pubs—microcosms of home, no matter where you are in the world—welcome all with creamy pints of Guinness, rich Bailey’s, warming hot whiskeys, and perfectly poured Irish coffees.

Wherever you are and however you celebrate, we hope you have a wonderful, Irish day.

Sláinte!

NEW FOR 2025 - EXPLORE OUR HISTORIC KITCHENS
Ever wondered what life was like 'below stairs' at Alnwick Castle?

Visitors can explore our kitchens for the first time in the Castle’s nearly one-thousand-year history, as our transformative four-year restoration project begins.

Plus, with a brand new Pizzeria and Ice Cream Parlour within the Castle Courtyard, enjoy freshly made pizzas and salads, famous Morwick Dairy ice cream, and cakes, pastries and savouries.

Watch this space for the full events programme for our 2025 Season, which opens Friday 28th March.
Join our family history appeal
As work begins to re-discover, restore and revitalise Alnwick Castle’s historic kitchens, our archivists have been studying an early 20th century photograph, showing the kitchen team preparing for a royal visit.

Do you recognise an ancestor in this picture?

To help bring to life the stories of these hard-working, expert members of kitchen staff, we are launching an appeal for people across the UK to help us track down their identities. Budding family historians, get in touch if you can help!
