Cleckheaton Writers Group (CWG) met on Monday 17 February at 5.30-7pm in Cleckheaton Library with David, Ellie, Karen, Kathy and Reuben in attendance, Barbara and Molly having passed on their apologies.
The minutes were passed from the last meeting.
WIP updates: Karen has undertaken some MS appraisals, entered more competitions, written some pieces as part of her U3A writing class and attended her first Story Godmother apprenticeship Zoom. Ellie has written a new sketch which she brought for feedback. Reuben has rewritten a chapter, typed it up and plotted the YA project. David has worked on Another Day (at 30+ pages) and looked at a couple of poems which he brought for feedback.
CW comps/workshops/events: Anna Chilvers writing courses (see attached pages 3-5 of CWG agenda), Wergle Flomp Humor competition 1 April deadline, 250 lines £2k, £500 and £250 prizes and Mslexia competitions (see Karen's blog posts for details).
Writing plans: Karen will do some writing as part of her U3A course, some feedback for her Story Godmother mentorship and look at one of her MS to edit or complete. David will write a couple of chapters on Another Day as he has resolved the plotting. Reuben will start work on the next chapter of his WIP. Kathy will start a script version of The Twelve Dates of Chris Moss starting with the first date. Ellie will pick up her screenplay.
Feedback sessions: David shared 2 small pieces, Another Day section and a crime story. Members felt the introduction needed to be more clear about the head explosion and that there may be a problem with some of the terms used but that the poem shared had a lovely nostalgic feel. Karen had shared Barbara's excellent Donald Trump poems and requested CWG members email Barbara with their feedback, sharing Barbara's email address to those in attendance (she has given her emailed feedback). Should anyone require Barbara's email address in order to send feedback on her poem, please contact Karen directly. Ellie shared her radio sketch about Death. The black comedy is about a 999 call regarding a human sacrifice to a witch which the CWG members all felt was hilarious. Karen shared her U3A piece, a short story about a desert rat, which led to a discussion about references to enemy positions, e.g. clicks, and a short scene from her The Pallbearer WIP, which members enjoyed.
A discussion then followed about agents and publishers referencing YouTube Book Fox, W&A guide, Sparrow and Jurisdiction.
The next meeting will take place on Monday 3 March at 5.30-7pm in Cleckheaton Library and Karen has passed on her apologies for this meeting. New members are always welcome.
