ACCA Dance Theatre presents
Occupational Hazard

Saturday, 28th September at

7.30pm

Leeds based duo ACCA Dance Theatre presents their much anticipated first full
length show: Occupational Hazard

Fusing comedy, clowning and choreography, Occupational Hazard follows the day
in the life of air hostesses Becky and Linda, ACCAirways’ creme de la creme on a
low budget airline where casual sexism is normalised. Though at times tongue in
cheek to entertain a plane full of passengers, the show delves deeper than the
interplay between Becky and Linda, as they navigate consent and unsolicited
touch as a female in the service industry, asking audience members to ride the
waves of their individual emotional journeys.

Bolstered by their shared experience, Becky and Linda declare a feminist
emergency by the end of the show, and although the flight is scheduled to travel
nowhere, perhaps lands somewhere in the land of empowerment and action.
You’re in safe hands when you fly with Becky and Linda, so sit back, relax, and let
them lull you into a false sense of security. Boarding passes at the ready, this
flight is about to take off!

★★★★ The Stage "both deeply moving and seriously funny"

Trigger Warning:
The show deals with the themes of sexual consent, objectification and navigating
sexism including the representation of sexual assault which individuals may find
triggering. Audience participation is encouraged throughout, but not mandatory.

BREAK-EVEN

Glengoyne 18

The Glengoyne distillery sits at the foot of Dumgoyne Hill near Loch Lomond. Glengoyne's stills are Scotland's slowest, this encourages the formation of "esters" giving Glengoyne its characteristically sweet, fruity taste. No peat is used in the barley drying process, allowing the subtle, complex flavours of slow distillation and exquisite wood to shine through.
Glengoyne's natural colour comes from time and wood alone.
The 18yo is the result of eighteen long years aging, a generous proportion of that in first-fill sherry casks.

Usual price per shot £29.64
Our Price per shot £6.57

Our holidays reviewed in your words…

quote

This was my second guided bike trip with Wilderness Ireland, and it was just as fantastic as the first. Our guides, Duncan and Katie were so helpful and took care of our every need. I appreciated their depth of knowledge regarding the local geography, flora and fauna, and cultural tidbits. Our accommodations were lovely, but it was the scenic beauty of the ride that took my breath away. I am so glad thatI have seen Ireland with Wilderness Ireland, and look forward to another trip in the future! Thank you so much.

As we approach Black History Month, we’re excited to shine a spotlight on the incredible talent of Black writers at Birmingham Literature Festival. Our events explore a variety of themes and genres, featuring a diverse lineup of voices whose work enriches and expands our literary landscape.

We are thrilled to be partnering with Africa Writes and Legacy Centre of Excellence on the 28th September for a day of thought-provoking discussions with influential authors plus a masterclass on publishing.

Throughout the festival, we invite you to engage with a multitude of events featuring influential Black writers from trailblazing poet Jackie Kay to 'Queen of the Big Reveal' crime fiction author Dorothy Koomson.

We'll explore Birmingham's history of telling stories of working class and Black lives in Britain through music, with writer and journalist Aniefiok Ekpoudom and the writers of Punch Record's 0121 Legacy.

On the 7th October Casey Bailey will be reinstating the Urban Sermon - an event our festival ran for a number of years featuring the late Benjamin Zephaniah. This special event will take place at Birmingham Cathedral as a tribute to Benjamin and to honour his legacy, his impact on the creative life of the city, and celebrate the generations of Birmingham poets building on the foundation he laid.
