Dear Reader,

Failure and crisis have spawned two great podcasts, from hosts who know how it feels. Elizabeth Day, host of How To Fail, feels the break up of a marriage and not having children to be among hers. Andy Coulson, former editor of the News of the World and David Cameron’s Director of Communications, went through a very public-facing crisis of epic proportions when he was jailed for his involvement in the phone-hacking scandal. His podcast Crisis What Crisis? examines how people cope with their crises and come out the other side. This week, he came to speak at one of our Great British Brands events and held the room powerfully. I was left with two great bits of advice: first was how being bitter or resentful is no good for anyone, he quoted Mandela’s maxim of ‘resentment is like drinking poison and then hoping it will kill your enemies’; the second was, whatever you’re going through, know that ‘it will end’. Lessons worth heeding from someone who knows…

How To Create A Reading Nook

Books? Remember those… Well, put the phone down and create a device-free zone where you can hideaway under a blanket with a steaming cuppa and settle down with a great read. Find out how here.

What The Grand Tourists Did Next…

It used to be men and cars, now it’s men and pubs. Jeremy Clarkson was heard complaining that his new pub is losing an astonishing £10 per diner, and meanwhile, his old mucker James May only bought his so he’d have one within walking distance. Are petrolheads the answer for saving this British institution?

The Travel Habits Of The Super Rich

And it’s not what you think. Long gone are the ‘glitzy resorts and ostentatious hotels’, says Fran Kellett, it’s now all about ‘mind-blowing experiences and behind-the-scenes access – the more off-the-chart the better.’ Does that float your boat?

FIVE THINGS NOT TO MISS

Don’t miss Great British Bake Off, which returns for its 15th series on Tuesday. Why not celebrate by whizzing up the show’s famed fudge cake?

A new exhibition from Tracey Emin is running at White Cube Bermondsey, titled ‘I followed you to the end’ – here’s what to expect. Until 10 November

Mayfair hotel DUKES London is shaking up afternoon tea tradition by eschewing tiered cake stands, instead serving sandwiches, scones and pastries in a four-course feast.

On the hunt for a new gym? A shiny new Third Space has arrived in Clapham, offering reformer Pilates, hot yoga, spinning and more.

Jason Atherton’s latest restaurant, Sael, has just opened in St James’ Market, focused around wood-fired grill dishes.
