Creative Kirklees
Latest Events, News and Opportunities
Wednesday, September 11th
|
We have a fantastic opportunity for
musicians, venues and businesses to share with you this week. ‘Kirklees Most Wanted’
is a collaborative project aimed at showcasing the vibrant music
scene in Kirklees, giving local artists a platform to share their
talent and connect with a wider audience. By working together with
local businesses, venues, and organisations, ‘Kirklees Most Wanted’
are committed to fostering a thriving music community and want to
create a space where artists can grow, network, and perform, while
also supporting the local economy and cultural scene.
If you are creative and
passionate about the Arts, join Proper Job Theatre Company on Friday
20 September for their One Big Day event
at the Byram Arcade in Huddersfield. This will be an
unforgettable day of creativity and inspiration! Highlights include
fantastic local musicians with open mic slots, taster workshops in
various creative activities, informative talks and Q&A sessions
and tours of the thriving creative businesses in the Arcade.
Two fabulous Festivals are
coming up this weekend: the streets of Holmfirth will be lined
with tasty quality produce, talented local musicians and
entertainment for all the family at this year's Holmfirth Food and Drink Festival
(14-15 Sept) and the first Bluesbury Festival in
Dewsbury is taking place at the West Riding Beerhouse (13-15 Sept)
hosting some of the best blues artists, many of them fresh from the
long established Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival in Colne.
Finally, Kirklees Heritage Open Days
runs until Sunday (15 September) and there are still some great
places to see and things to do including Vehicles in the Park
at Tolson Museum, In Her Steps, a
theatrical performance at Bagshaw Museum, and the Pirate's Plunder and Potatoes trail at
Oakwell Hall.
And as the Season changes
into Autumn you may want to start a new hobby or activity – so do
have look through the lovely selection of workshops that are
coming up in the area.

DAN JONES
18th September 2024, 7:30pm
Join
us on Wednesday 18th September for a
special evening event with author, historian and broadcaster Dan Jones as part of the book tour
for his newest biography, ‘Henry V’.
Henry
V reigned over England for only nine years and four months, but he
looms over the landscape of the late Middle Ages and beyond. For
Dan Jones, Henry is one of the most intriguing characters in all
medieval history, but one of the hardest to pin down. He was a
hardened warrior, yet also creative and artistic. He was a leader
who made many mistakes, yet always seemed to triumph when it
mattered. In foreign diplomacy, he made England a serious player
once more. Yet through his conquests in northern France, he sowed
the seeds for three generations of calamity at home, in the form of
the Wars of the Roses.
"This is a biography I have been waiting many years
to write. Henry V was considered the pinnacle and paragon of
medieval kingship in his own time – and for centuries thereafter...
As a study of leadership in a time of crisis, his story seems
especially meaningful right now."
Following the talk, Dan will be available to answer questions from
the audience and sign copies of ‘Henry V’.
