Five things to know about our next exhibition

Our next exhibition opens in two weeks and we can't wait! Haegue Yang: Leap Year explores a world of inventive, immersive and multisensory installations and sculptures that weave connections between histories, cultures and traditions.

1. Some of the artworks move around

A number of sculptures in the exhibition sit on wheels, enabling them to be moved around the Hayward Gallery at intervals during the exhibition.

2. Blinds leading to blinds

The exhibition features a new commission featuring layers of Venetian blinds that guide visitors through the space in a bath of light and colour.

3. Marginalised modernists are among Yang’s key influences

Yang draws from a wide range of underrepresented yet pioneering figures of modernism, including the textile designer, dancer and Dadaist artist Sophie Taeuber-Arp, and spiritual composer and dance teacher GI Gurdjieff.

4. Yang employs ancient traditions

Yang's work also uses traditional Korean materials, such as her series of collages that feature Hanji – a type of paper made from the bark of mulberry trees which has been produced in Korea since ancient times.
