July 19, 6pm – 7pm
Robert Caskie of Robert Caskie Ltd Literary Agency

Robert is a literary agent with over twenty years of experience. He represents a broad range of writers of fiction and non-fiction, many of whom are Sunday Times bestsellers. Passionate about and committed to all his authors, he supports them in every way to achieve success.

He is keen to receive fiction and non-fiction writing that stimulates debate, comments on the world around us, and evokes an emotional response. He is especially keen to see literary and reading group fiction, and stories with commercial cross-over appeal. With non-fiction he is most interested in narrative non-fiction, nature writing, memoir, politics, and social issues.

Joining Robert at this month's event will be,

Sarah Winman, Author

Sarah Winman was an actress, working in theatre in her twenties and early thirties but by 1992 she decided that she wanted to write a novel. Later in 2008, while taking an ‘Exploring Fiction’ course at City Lit, Sarah realised she was already writing what went on to become her highly acclaimed debut, When God Was A Rabbit, a story about childhood, eccentricity, loss and love. This novel was an international bestseller which won Sarah multiple awards, including New Writer of the Year in the Galaxy National Book Awards and the Newton First Book Award.

Her most recent novel, Still Life, was published by 4th Estate in the UK in June 2021 to great critical acclaim. Amongst other notable awards, it was selected as the Dymocks Book of the Year 2021, the winner of the 2021 Books Are My Bag Readers Award for Fiction, Good Morning America’s November 2021 Book Club choice, the inaugural Inwords Literary Award, and for the Autumn 2021 series of BBC Book Club with Sara Cox.

“When you sit at that desk time and time and time again, then luck is on your side, you have to keep sitting there, and you have to keep following those little clues, and then you have a little breakthrough. You might not have another one for a month or months.” The key, she adds, is “just sitting with yourself and allowing that process.” Publishers weekly

London Writers' Club & Jacq Burns
Helping writers get published

I’m just back from my Portuguese Writers' Retreat on a high. The group was amazing.  Hard working, intelligent, supportive of one another but also loads of fun.  Everyone worked in their own style and at their own pace, being respectful of each other’s space and ideas. *pic of them at work below.

I'm now gearing up for my next retreat in Puglia. It's filling fast and 5 lovely writers have already secured and booked their place.

There is still space for you, if you are ready to work on getting your book or pitch sorted.

We have a fabulous villa in an amazing location in the lovely city of Diso, near the Puglian coast.

Dates: September 4-9

Are you ready to join us? If you are serious about getting solid work done on your book, book a chat with Jacq now to find out more.

I can’t wait to welcome you to Puglia. The weather in September is glorious.

Five out of eight places are already booked just by word of mouth, so act fast.

*All rooms are double with ensuite - no sharing. There is one shared room (with single beds) available so do ask for the sharing price, if you have a friend you'd like to share with.

*The closest airport is Brindisi.
