The new at-home cardio machine to rival Peloton, and why we all need a house coat in our lives right now

It’s Earth Day next week, but unlike all those other ridiculous days conjured up usually for commercial purposes (bacon sandwich appreciation day, anyone?), we really should do Earth Day every day. Every action we make to reduce our carbon footprint (check what yours is here) is a step forward. The future is in our hands and we have choices, so whether you love fashion, have children, are gym junkies or want to eat right for the planet (and possibly all four!) – we’d like to help you make the right ones.

Have a great week.

WHAT’S KEEPING MY SPIRITS UP

Cinema nights chez toi

This is the best date night idea I’ve come across in a while. We’ve all been missing the big screen but Celestial Cinema allows you to recreate the magic at home. For £125, they’ll send you a projector, a 72-inch screen, popcorn, a mini bottle of Moet (ok, you may need to upgrade to a full bottle) and some pick ‘n’ mix. Friday night sorted. You’re welcome.

Rowing

I know gyms are open but I’m still loving the at-home exercise vibe. It’s so much more convenient. The latest bit of kit to lust after is the Hydrow, a home-use rowing machine with live classes streamed from wonderful waterways all over the world. And it uses significantly more muscle power than a bike. Is that bye bye, Peloton?

House coats

I love a house coat, it’s almost my favourite sartorial item – it’s an excellent multi-tasker. Part dressing gown/part cardigan/part coatigan/part coat, it’s one hardworking item that can look extremely chic but is also exceedingly comfortable. Win-win.

FIVE THINGS YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS

Solas at The Savoy

The Savoy is the latest top London hotel to embrace al fresco, launching a pop-up on its iconic entrance courtyard. Titled Solas – which translates as light, joy and comfort in Gaelic – the space will feature a raw seafood bar, plus a five-metre chandelier artwork.

The Hepworth Wakefield’s Spring Flower Festival

Back in 2019, The Hepworth Wakefield transformed a strip of grass outside the gallery into a beautiful garden, decked out with perennials, beech hedging, trees and shrubs. The space is now being celebrated in an online festival, running for two weeks from 19 April.

Fashion Revolution Week

Who made my fabric? We’re being encouraged to ask brands this key question as part of a new campaign for Fashion Revolution Week. Tune into the signature live-streamed event at 1pm tomorrow. Image: Prema Virudhunagar, courtesy of Fashion Revolution

Stella McCartney Pop-Ups

Celebrate the return of shopping at Stella McCartney’s flagship store on Old Bond Street, which is launching a series of pop-ups to highlight local businesses. The ‘Stellabration’ will include plant-based food from Notting Hill’s Farmacy, Face Gym beauty treatments and recycled neon art installations.

The British Cheese Weekender

One for cheese lovers: the British Cheese Weekender is back. Taking place online from 23 – 25 April, the free event will involve virtual farm tours, online masterclasses and tutored tastings, with guest appearances from Michelin-starred chefs like Simon Rogan and Tommy Banks.

Welcome to Connemara

Bounded by the Atlantic and set within a particularly scenic corner of County Galway, Connemara is famous for its wild terrain and soft colours.

Rust-coloured bogs are dotted with polished grey-blue lakes; old dry-stone walls are threaded over hills; and coral beaches, sandy bays and little harbours are edged by an ever-changing ocean.

While the time might not be right to visit Connemara just yet, we've summed up everything you need to know about this stunning region below...

It took 500 men 40 years to build the moat at Cork's Camden Fort Meagher!

Aladdin and the Stolen Stories

A Digital Storytelling experience with Wrongsemble.
Available to stream from Monday 19th April.

Children of all ages can experience the story of Aladdin like never before in this reimagined tale of adventure, magic and friendship filmed at recognisable locations across the city through a mix of live-action and animation.

Aladdin and the Stolen Stories is set in Bradford and told through five short episodes that are free to watch via the BLF website. As the story unfolds, Aladdin and his friends discover a further five stories, the ‘Found Stories’, which are also available to view for free online – you just need to find them first!

To discover the 'Found Stories', download a ‘Story Map’ for one of six community parks across Bradford. Follow the map to track down our QR code posters, located throughout the parks, which will lead you to the hidden online episodes. For families who are shielding, we have also created a ‘Stay-at-Home Story Map’ so that you can discover the ‘Found Stories’ without leaving the house.

Story Maps are available for the following parks:

Lister Park
Bowling Park
Horton Park
Wibsey Park
Peel Park
Cliff Castle Park

For a sneak peak, view the trailer at the top of this email.
