After a lovely five days visiting my friend in Spain, I'm back and wondering what to do this weekend. If you need a few ideas, here are some things to do this weekend if you live in or near to Leeds, London and New York:
WIN
three big adventures or a pop-culture spectacular...
|
|
|
|
|
|
Mountains of chips, loaded burgers and
chilli dogs. Wings so hot you have to wear gloves to eat them. The
biggest pile of fish and chips you'll ever see in your life. The city's
food challenges will put your stomach capacity to the test, but if you
can brave the meat sweats and handle the heat, you could be the all-time
champion.

Leeds is a thriving digital hub – and
nowhere is that more clear than at Leeds Digital Job Fair. Back this
October, it will bring together an eclectic mix of start-ups and global
names, all looking to bolster their ranks. So if you're thinking about
your next move, clear your diary.
|
|
|
It's a big month on the event front with
everything from mesmerising light shows to big Oktoberfest shindigs
and zombie themed all-nighters. But with so much to choose from, you
might need a little help filling your diary, so check out our list of 50
must-do events.
|
|
The scariest night of the year is almost
upon us, but how will you spend it? You could dance the night away at a
spooky club night, hug your popcorn for dear life at a horror movie
screening or round-up the kids for a day of scarecrow trails and
Halloween crafts. The choice is yours.
|
|
|
Eating out on the cheap has never been
so tasty!
|
|
This is going to be epic! You can bag a
year's free travel with First Bus, along with three immense days out.
Enjoy a bang-up roast dinner at the Kirkstall Bridge Inn, see the set of
Emmerdale and channel your best Peaky Blinders at Wetherby
Racecourse.
|
|
|
To celebrate the launch of Make:
Believe, the new pop-culture exhibition at the Royal Armouries, we're
giving you the chance to win a fantastic prize. Be the first to see
their new Stormtrooper blasters, enjoy a two-course lunch, fire
a crossbow and more!
|
|
Eat out for less this month with these
cracking restaurant deals...
|
|
|
Hyde Park is a sprawling network of
terraced streets interspersed with cool indie shops, laid-back cafes and
traditional pubs. Here, in this urban maze, you can feast on one of the
most famous breakfasts in Leeds, enjoy a free afternoon tea in an old church
or see the latest up and coming bands on the stage.

How To... Jump Over The Moon
Sat 19th Oct, 11-6pm
Our How To Festival is back! This time it’s themed around outer
space and with puppetry, live music and an outdoor adventure
there’s something for all the family.
We’d love you to come down and take part in one or more of these
activities, or even better stay for the whole day! We’ll put on
some sandwiches for lunch at 12noon and at 5pm we’ll all come
together for a big family friendly pop concert by The Neptunes! Everything
is You Pay What You Decide after you take part.
|

|
|

guide you through singing in harmony and getting some beats
going with some basic percussion.
|
|
|
|
|
At 1pm Goblin
Theatre presents Hey Diddle Diddle! for children aged 3+
Ever wondered how a cow jumped over the moon? Or why the dish
ran away with the spoon? With original songs played
live on stage, brilliant puppetry and lots of laughter,
this new show is a wild and musical celebration about
the importance of imagination.
|
|
|
|
|
At 2.15pm Manic Chord present
The Unknown for children aged 7+
You’re invited to go on an
adventure with Leeds theatre company Manic Chord in their new
80’s inspired extra-terrestrial experience: The
Unknown. Amber, a tech savvy teen and her rather more
traditional grandmother, Dawn, are onto something supernatural.
With fellow members of the Society for Speculation, can the
daring duo get to the bottom of these gravitational goings
on?
|
|
|
|
|
At 4pm Alien Antics workshop
for children aged 7+
In this imaginative workshop with the makers of The Unknown
you’ll play games, tell stories and create your own alien
adventure.
|
|
|
|
|
At 5pm The Neptunes: Family

Holbeck Cup at the National Student Drama Festival
for a work-in-progress performance of their newest show,
Good Grief. Ugly Bucket process the death of a friend in the
only way they know how; through a high energy maelstrom of
clowning, slapstick, verbatim, and thumping techno tracks.
Tickets to be released soon - keep an eye out for a newsletter
update!

There is just a handful of tickets
left for our second big cabaret night. On the 60th anniversary of
women being welcomed into the country’s oldest working men’s club
there’ll be live music, comedy, performance art anarchy, dancing
and a delicious dinner from the Spicy Biker. Make sure you

|
|
Car Park
King
Sun 27th Oct, 5pm
Described by The British Theatre Guide as ‘Horrible Histories for
grown-ups’, during its phenomenal sell-out shows in 2017,
‘Car Park King’ is an original comedy play about one of the most
controversial Kings of England, Richard III.
Add a drop of Monty Python, a dash of Blackadder and a sprinkle
of Spike Milligan and you have a side- splitting, bizarre,
unmissable comedy that is ‘Car Park King.’
|
|
|
As part of the Cultural
Community College, our Big Ideas series is all about
inspirational people discussing their passion projects. There are
two fantastic Big Ideas sessions in October.

Being An End Of Life Doula
Sunday 13th at 5pm
Rebecca Kenyon and Mandy Kazmierski will be here to talk about
Being An End Of Life Doula, which mirrors the role of a birth
Doula but instead of supporting the arrival of new life, they are
present as someone is dying. We’ll also be screening Rebecca’s award-winning
documentary ‘Holding Space’.
|
|
|
|
|
A Cosmic Story
Sunday 20th at 5pm
Jane Riddiford from Global Generation will be here to tell us the
massive, evolving, scientific story of where we all came from.

Frieze London & Frieze
Masters
Frieze London is back for its
17th edition, showcasing 160 galleries from 36 countries around
the world. It’s an opportunity for visitors to discover the
world’s most exciting artists and curators, from the emerging to
the iconic. Be sure to check out this year’s new themed
section Woven,
curated by Cosmin Costinas, writer, critic and Executive Director
of Para Site (Hong Kong).
Frieze Masters runs in
conjunction with this, but while Frieze London focuses on
contemporary art, Frieze Masters showcases work made before the
year 2000. New this year is the
fair’s Spotlight section, featuring presentations from
20th century artists across painting, photography, sculpture,
drawing and conceptual installations. We’ll be seeing work from
pioneering New York figures like Ming Smith – the first African
American female photographer to have her work acquired by the
Museum of Modern Art – and Gordon Parks’ expressions of the Black
American experience from 1940-70.
