Welcome to the weekly What's On newsletter, your curated guide to how to spend the upcoming weekend.

What's On in London?

Return of the Mac at The Cheese Bar

If you’re partial to a bowl of mac 'n' cheese (who isn’t?), head down to Camden favourite The Cheese Bar, where a series of London restaurants have been invited to put their spin on the classic dish. The only rule? All cheese must be British. POLPO kicked things off this week with ‘Telefono Ultimo’, named after the expression Italians use when melted cheese stretches into long strings resembling telephone cables. This will be on the menu until 21 October, when Darby’s will take over with a truffled number.
Series runs until 18 October, with a new dish on the menu each week.

Skate at The Natural History Museum

Get your skates on at The Natural History Museum, which launches its annual ice rink this weekend. Set against the backdrop of the Waterhouse building, it’s one of the capital’s most magical skating spots – made all the better with plenty of mulled wine and seasonal snacks.
19 October 2019-12 January 2020.

Visit Really Wild's New Chelsea Store

Stock up on cashmere roll-necks and cable knits at Really Wild’s recently refurbished Chelsea boutique. Styled with House of Hackney wallpaper and Andrew Martin furniture to kick back on, it’s easy to spend hours here without realising – particularly as their new Autumn/Winter collection is so chic.

Michelin Rated Grub
The 133 restaurants that recently received the Michelin Bib Gourmand for affordable high-quality dining feature 29 new NYC locations. Bib Gourmand restaurants offer a full menu of a starter, main course, and dessert, making it possible to order two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for around $40 or less (tax and gratuity not included).
The different eateries are featured throughout the five boroughs. Some spots include Italian food at SoHo’s Nonna Beppa, Sichuan cuisine at Café China in Midtown East, and others.
New York Living
Mayor Bill de Blasio's Housing New York (HNY) plan was meant to protect seniors and low income individuals from losing their apartments. The program was implemented to align those that need resources with affordable living and beneficial programs.
Now, New Yorkers are wondering why the programs aren't doing enough to alleviate the housing crisis. Although the initial goal of the program was to create and preserve 300,000 affordable housing units, the progress made is still lacking.
Accessible Healthy Eats
Central Brooklyn Food Co-op began six years ago with a mission to distribute fresh foods at affordable prices in low income communities of Central Brooklyn. Now, a fundraiser to collect money in order to secure a permanent space for the initiative is underway.
Even as the relationship between economics and nutrition continue to fester, community efforts such as the Central Brooklyn Food Co-op, which is the only Black-led food co-op in NYC, teach us something powerful about community service which rises from within.
