With full details of upcoming events:

Tips for your pitch letter

We often talk to writers about their pitch letter and a usual part of that is a line about which books your own one would sit on the shelf with. Reading is a huge part of writing - read widely and also in depth in your genre. If you are writing YA, what are the bestselling YA books - and try and figure out why. If you are writing nature books - what books have succeeded in the past - and currently. Check which famous writer you write like with this statistical analysis tool, which analyzes your word choice and writing style and compares them with those of the famous writers.

Top tips for writing for children
From children's book author, Clementine Beauvais

 Don't think small
Children love all things big, and not just dinosaurs. They can cope with complicated words they've never seen before: that's what they've been doing non-stop since they were born. They can cope with difficult, dark, touchy topics: they're always asking their parents about them. They can cope with humour: they often wish adults had more of it. Don't give them small, cosy, mundane stories.
