His Own Man - A
book launch
His
Own Man - A Victorian 'Hidden' Muslim
You are invited to the launch of two books on a Victorian
'hidden' Muslim , Robert 'Reschid' Stanley. ‘His Own Man’ is the
historical biography of Robert Stanley. The ‘sister’ book, ‘Imagining
Robert Reschid’, is creative fiction using plays, scripts and monologues.
Both were written by Robert's great, great, great grandaughter Christina
Longden, who will be at the launch to talk about her work,
Robert Stanley was a respectable northern working-class
Victorian man who converted to Islam. But his family managed to keep his
Muslim identity a secret - for nearly a century.
Always ‘His Own Man’, Robert ‘Reschid’ Stanley’s life and
times are brought into the light for the first time thanks to the
painstaking family history research of his own descendants and through
the words of his great, great, great granddaughter, Christina Longden.

I Don't Know What
I'm Supposed To Be Doing
An
autobiographical tale about dementia
Emma Decent performs a one-woman show - an
autobiographical tale about Emma’s mother who was a librarian and had
dementia at the end of her life. The show uses story-telling, a simple
set, slideshows of film and photos, music and props including library
books to tell a funny and often moving story.
There will be a post-show discussion (Q and A) and a relaxed conversation
on issues and thoughts arising from the story.

Get it Loud in
Libraries: Self Esteem
Our fifth Kirklees Libraries and Get it Loud in
Libraries presentation
Self Esteem brings powerful pop to Huddersfield Library.
Self Esteem’s debut album Compliments Please really packs a punch
and has been described as an “unapologetically empowered pop manifesto”
(When the Horn Blows) and praised for its “incredibly balanced pace
between slow-burning ballads and Beyonce-worthy bangers” (Drowned
in Sound).
