Tickets are selling fast for The Northern Short
Story Festival 2018 with over a third of workshop tickets already
sold. Don't be disappointed and miss out on master classes with our
amazing authors.
The
Northern Short Story Festival 2018 is the only festival of its kind
in the North, celebrating Northern short story writers and Northern
talent. This year it takes place over 2 days, Saturday 2 June –
Sunday 3 June, at the Carriageworks Theatre, Leeds.
The Festival promotes the short story form through
workshops, panel discussions and events. Popular and published
authors, editors and small press publishers will come together to
share their stories, expertise and wisdom with you. For the first
time, we have a horror short story genre themed Sunday!
We have 6 WORKSHOPS
On Saturday, Nature Stories
with Richard Smyth; Writing
in the Second Person with Lara Williams; Stories Across Worlds
with Jacqueline Crooks; and Transformative Fiction with Irenosen
Okojie.
On Sunday, Deadly
Fictions with Naomi
Booth; and An
Introduction to Ghost Story Writing with Adam
Z. Robinson.
We have 2 PANEL events
On Saturday, Prizewinning Collections with
Influx Press
featuring Clare Fisher
and C.G.Menon as they discuss the art and craft of
compiling a prizewinning short story collection.
On Sunday, The Short Story and Our
World. STORGY and Comma discuss the political
and out-of-this world possibilities of the short story, featuring
EXIT EARTH winner Rachel Connor.
The Northern Short Story Festival is a partnership
venture between the Leeds Big Bookend Festival, Leeds City Council
and Fictions of Every Kind, with funding from Leeds Inspired. The
Festival’s Director is Leeds author SJ Bradley.

We have a BOOK LAUNCH
On Saturday, join
award-winning publishing house Peepal Tree Press as they launch a
new collection,The
Ice Migration
by Jacqueline Crooks, (Asham Award & Wasafari
shortlistee); with a sneak preview of Black Dogs and the Colour Yellow
by Christine Barrow, (Uni of the West Indies).
We have a PERFORMANCE event
On Saturday, hear from
Leeds-based Strix magazine.
Just shortlisted in the Saboteur Awards 2018 Best
Magazine category,
it has published nearly a hundred writers from all over the
world since its launch last year. Founders Ian Harker and Andrew
Lambeth introduce a pick ’n‘ mix of contributors from the first
three issues.

Tickets range from £Free to £12 or you can
buy a Saturday day ticket for £30 or a weekend ticket for
£44.50.

Fiction Slam competition is back on Tuesday 29 May
at the Hyde Park Book Club. 12 slots, 5 minutes, best
story wins! Our host is Jimmy Andrex, with judges Clare
Fisher and John Irving Clarke. There are prizes too. Full
