Hello,
As some of you know, next month you are invited to the second in The TLS events series
of 2018. This evening event will focus on smaller, independent
publishers with a line up of speakers from some of the UK’s most
exciting presses.
There are limited early bird tickets available for only £5 and
sales end next Wednesday (2nd May).

What's
it all about?
These are boom times for small, independent presses, with a recent
report citing a 79% increase in sales by sixty of the UK’s smallest
publishers. How do we account for this in an otherwise stagnating
publishing sector? Is it part of a broader societal shift? And how
can we – publishers and readers – sustain it?
Speaker line up:
Thea Lenarduzzi, commissioning editor at
the TLS and the co-host of Freedom, Books, Flowers and the Moon,
the TLS’s weekly podcast. John Mitchinson, a
writer and publisher and the co-founder of Unbound, the
award-winning crowdfunding platform for books. Sarah Cleave, Publishing Manager at
Comma Press, an independent publisher specialising in the short
story. Cécile Menon, a
translator between French and English, and the joint-laureate, with
Natasha Lehrer, of the 2016 Scott Moncrieff Prize for Translation
from the French.

Good morning publishing!
The London Book Fair is over for another year. It was fabulous that
so many of you were able to attend our gatherings - and hope that
you are able to keep connected to everyone you met.
We're emailing you today to make sure you're in the loop about
upcoming events. As always, please do let us know if you think
we're missing anything that needs discussing. It's time to start
planning the 2019 event series; so we're all ears!

Inclusion:
It’s time to stop talking and start making real changes
Wednesday
25th April 2018
NEARLY SOLD OUT!
Publishing,
we have a problem: despite years of well-meaning discussion, our
industry is still failing to represent the diversity of society in
our staff and the content we produce. So what can we do about this,
as individuals?

How
technology influences book design and three visual trends you
cannot ignore
Wednesday 20th June 2018
Limited early bird tickets £5
The
big visual trends within book design tend to come from outside of
publishing and increasingly, it’s our use of technology that drives
what’s hot and what’s not. How can you filter out the fads and
focus on visuals your readers will love?
