New Writing North: Read Regional

RSThe annual Read Regional campaign celebrates selected new books from the North of England.

Emma Decent: A one woman theatre performance

emma"I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing" was something Emma's Mum said repeatedly in the early days of her dementia. Over 10 years later, now her mother has died, Emma finds herself asking the same question.
Created especially for libraries, this new show by Emma Decent goes on a journey through time, mother-daughter love and re-evaluation. 
A funny, moving, inspiring tale using poetry, theatre - and library books - showing as part of Dementia Awareness Week.

Local History Lunchtime Club: Huddersfield Humanitarians

Dr. Rebecca Gill, Frank Grombir and Adam Millar will discuss their research into local humanitarian organisations and responses to refugees in Huddersfield from the First to the Second World War. 
It will take in the relief committees founded to aid Belgian refugees during the First World War and the Huddersfield Famine Relief Committee (which became known as Hudfam) founded during the Second World War, as well as the ways in which Huddersfield Borough Council and local organisations reacted to the arrival and presence of refugees from Nazism.

Mary has been travelling to India since 2005. The Inklings: Fantasy's fall from grace

The Inklings were an informal literary circle in Oxford who began meeting in the early 1930s. the nucleus of the group was formed by CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien. Take a look at the Inklings' final years and discusses why their works are still considered classics today. There will be a particular focus on the life and works of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Finally winter has come to an end! We now look forward to an exciting spring summer season of events, concerts and performances for everyone!

Dance the night away with an array of live shows including Shalamar, Whitney Queen of the Night, Magic of The Beatles, Roy Orbison Experience and The Johnny Cash Roadshow. For Drama and Musical lovers we have a fantastic range of amateur productions in Batley, Cleckheaton and Dewsbury Town Hall. 
Classical and Choir performances continue into summer plus we launch our 2018/19 Orchestral Season at a preview concert at both Huddersfield and Dewsbury Town Hall at the end of May.
Comedy is at the heart of the programme with side splitting performances by Chris Ramsey, Sarah Millican and Rich Hall.

It's the night that the King, Elvis Presley, died and Roddy O'Neill is busy dreaming of life as a rock star! Debs, his girlfriend, has her own thoughts... basically that Roddy's a selfish, arrogant, horrible, unfeeling, rude, heartless pig! But the truth is that Roddy is in love with Debs, and Debs is in love with Roddy, but Debs knows that her Roddy has more than a roving eye! Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.
