Creepy Boys
by Scantily Glad Theatre with Sam Kruger and S.E.Grummet

Saturday 9th November at 8pm

You're invited: The Creepy Boys, are throwing their 13th birthday party. It will have everything. Games. Gifts. Possibly Satan. Probably Cake. Combining 2000s sexy songs, satanic rituals, and Willem Dafoe, these horny little boys do whatever it takes to make their birthday dreams come true.

The twins recruit the audience to help them set up their party, with all the deference and direct eye contact you’d expect from attending a twin-teen birthday blast, before driving the show off a horror-comedy cliff - think the twins from The Shining meets My Super Sweet 16.

Leeds International Concert Season logo

Hi

This November, the celebrated Manchester Camerata orchestra partners with composer Rushil Ranjan and veena (large Indian harp) and vocal virtuoso Abi Sampa for a genre-defying evening at the Howard Assembly Room that promises to reimagine what music can be. This authentic fusion of cultures and connections explores themes of love, spirituality, and identity.

Our journey across Europe continues as part of the International Chamber Series as the Trio Gaspard (pictured above) takes us on a trip along the Danube. The trio performs folk-inspired music from Vienna to Budapest by Johannes Brahms, Sándor Veress and László Lajtha.

There's plenty of free lunchtime music this month as we continue to welcome some of the UK's top organists to Leeds Cathedral every Monday, plus a huge variety of artists, ensembles and much-loved music to Leeds Conservatoire every Wednesday. Keep reading to discover what's in store.

See you at a concert soon,
Leeds International Concert Season

Upcoming concerts

EverReady Band

The EverReady Band presents music from James Bond, Indiana Jones, the toe-tapping Walk Like an Egyptian, plus brassy favourites by Tom Davoren, Philip Sparke and Jimmy Webb that showcase the band's skilful playing.

EverReady Band's programme will be the final Leeds Best of Brass concert at Morley Town Hall before it closes for refurbishment at the end of the year. Concerts will continue at Pudsey Civic Hall from January 2025.

Manchester Camerata: Māyā

Experience a one-of-a-kind fusion of east and west in Māyā, where classical meets contemporary, and the traditional embraces the experimental. Rushil Ranjan's work, Māyā, seamlessly blends the sounds of a western classical orchestra with the beauty of Carnatic music, the ancient and complex musical tradition of south India.

Who Are You: Callout for Artists from the University of Bradford

The University is looking for an artist who can help bring peoples stories, told through the University’s Together Cafe project: Who are you?, to life.

"Who are you?" will pair University of Bradford students and staff with members of the community to explore the question of identity and heritage. Together they will share their stories, answer questions about who they are, and uncover shared experiences.

Working with a local artist, the stories will be recorded and transformed into an artistic work that reflects the diverse identities and voices of Bradford.

The University is looking for an artist who can bring these stories to life, working collaboratively with participants to translate their experiences into a creative form. The medium is open to interpretation—visual art, digital media, spoken word, or any other format that can best convey the stories and emotions shared.

The final work will be showcased on the University of Bradford campus during Bradford 2025.

They are looking for:

  • A local artist with experience in community-based projects.
  • Someone skilled in storytelling through their artistic practice.
  • An artist open to working collaboratively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to translate spoken stories and themes of identity into an artistic form.

Register your interested:
If you are interested in working with us on this project, please e-mail events@bradford.ac.uk by Friday 8 November 2024 with the following information:

  • Name
  • Previous examples of your work and experience
  • How much you would charge

Discover Ireland this Halloween

Oíche Shamhna Shona Duit

Hi

Or in English, Happy Halloween!

As the crisp autumn winds begin to swirl and the days grow shorter, there’s a sense of magic in the air. And nowhere is that magic more deeply rooted than in Ireland, where Halloween was born over 2,000 years ago.

Originally, Halloween was the Celtic festival of Samhain. Back then, folk dressed in costume, believing that disguising themselves would allow them to blend in with any wandering spirits, remaining safe from harm. Bonfires burned late into the night as people sang, communed with the dead, and hung crosses above their doors to protect them from bad luck.

Today, we still celebrate Halloween, but in a more mellow way than our ancestors once did. Pumpkins glow from doorsteps and we bake delicious báirín breac as children dress up and giggle from house to house.

One of our most enduring traditions is sharing ghost stories. Oral storytelling stretches across the centuries through beastly ballads, terrifying tales, and macabre myths. Whether it’s a casual chat with a local hiker, discovering Ireland's spooky landscapes, or yarns spun by fire in a cosy pub, our incredible collection of sinister stories have an eerie way of revealing themselves to the curious traveller.

So, make a cup of tea, settle down by the crackling fire, and explore the origins and traditions of Halloween in Ireland with us.

The latest from the Jurassic Coast Trust team

Lucy Culkin, Chief Executive Officer, will be leaving the role at the end of the year, after 7 years with the Trust and 5 years in role as CEO. Lucy joined JCT in September 2017, just a brief time after the Trust became responsible for World Heritage Site Management of the Dorset and East Devon Coast, devolved from Dorset and Devon Council. During her tenure, Lucy has developed the strategy and led the team to deliver the 2020-2025 Site Partnership Plan, which involves stakeholders across the 95 mile stretch of coast.

You may remember in our previous newsletter that Saskia's entry of the Geo-Heritage Sustainability Study into the Engineering Group of the Geological Society of London's annual Glossop Award had been shortlisted. Saskia received positive feedback for her presentation on the day, and although unfortunately the entry did not win the award, being shortlisted is an achievement in itself. We would like to extend our warm congratulations to the winner, Jordan Weddepohl, for his talk titled "UK levelised cost for geothermal heat and power"

Saskia was invited to the Dorset Coast Forum Annual Conference to present on the Geo-Heritage Sustainability Study and how social media can be used to talk about science and projects. The sold out event had over 120 attendees and was a fantastic event for coastal professionals across the Dorset coast to discuss coastal change and plans.

Families         Just for Two        Pet Friendly       Last Minute       Luxury

Hey there Quirky Campers!

As we wrap up October, we’re celebrating the wonderful autumn we've had so far. The vibrant colours, the crisp air and of course Halloween make this month a firm favourite with the Quirky Team! Whether you’ve been carving pumpkins, taking an autumnal road trip or simply enjoying the beauty of the season on your walks, it’s been the perfect time to connect with nature.

We love hearing the success stories of your trips on the road, particularly the amazing reviews we get left that lift our spirits, reading back the tales of your adventures are the highlight of our jobs. To share a little of that campervan love we’ve chosen some of the best reviews from this October:

Marianne’s toddlers had the best time in Ronnie;

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“Great Van !!

Travelling in a convoy with friends was great, but having Ronnie as part of the convoy was great !! The whole segment of front seats being able to turn around made Ronnie the place to be at the end of the night. The large roomy area was great for our friend's toddler, who on a rainy day had a lot of playtime !! The layout worked well for a couple with a child (the single bed is full-sized - but can be removed in not required) or if you have a lot of luggage/bikes etc there is lots of space!! We would love to travel with Ronnie again !!”

Jack and the family also had a great time in El Santo:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“Amazing!

The perfect camper! El Santo has everything you could possibly need...a comfy bed, lots of room, all the amenities, easy to use and a great drive!

Dave and Rosie were amazing with answering all our questions and being flexible etc. Could not have made it any easier for us.

Our 3 children (and us) had the best time...could not recommend it highly enough!”

Would you love to take advantage of our family-friendly campervans for your next holiday? There’s nothing quite like hitting the road with loved ones, exploring autumn trails, and creating memories that last a lifetime.

Winter is Coming!

As we turn our sights to November, we’re excited to embrace the winter vibes that are just around the corner. While the days may be shorter and the temperatures drop, there’s something incredibly inviting about winter camping. Picture this: snuggling up in a warm, cosy campervan with a wood burner crackling nearby, a steaming cup of hot chocolate in hand, and the beauty of winter landscapes all around you.

Our winter-ready campervans are designed for comfort, offering the perfect refuge from the chill outside. Wake up to frosty mornings and step outside to enjoy the peace of nature in the morning before retreating back to your snug little home on wheels for a cup of coffee. It’s the ultimate way to recharge and experience the outdoors, even in the colder months!
