Dear Reader,

I’m over Champagne Socialism, and deep into Champagne Conscience. My friends laugh at me as I only drink champagne. This is because a) I get deep joy from a crisp, cold glass (whatever the weather), and b) because it then means I can say no to all the other drinks (and therefore cut down consumption). So that’s the champagne bit, the conscience bit means I care about what I drink, who I drink it with and how it brings joy into a responsible lifestyle – which is the field in which C&TH plays. Step forward my solution: Telmont Champagne. Not only is it utterly delicious, it’s on a mission to transform the industry from the front. Helmed by the rather easy-on-the-eye Ludovic du Plessis – and with a partner in Leonardo DiCaprio – Telmont is on an uncompromising journey when it comes to sustainability – and taste. I’ll happily raise a glass (or three) to that.

Have a great week.

WHAT’S EXCITING ME THIS WEEK

Belmond’s New Luxury Sleeper Train

Who said train romance was dead (apart from those whose locomotives are forever delayed or cancelled). For those whose faith in rail remains undiminshed, the news that a new luxury sleeper from Belmond is coming the UK should send shivers down the proverbial tracks.

The 2024 Booker Prize Winner

The first woman in five years has scooped literature’s most vaunted gong – and the novel, Orbital, which is set in space, is the second shortest ever to win. For some this may be reason enough to give it a go (an 800-page doorstopper can sometimes feel too daunting). This – and the critical acclaim, of course – means it’s going on my Christmas wish list.
