Collage workshop
Saturday 14th
December, Keighley Library
10am -3pm
(including an hour for lunch)
Join local artist Jean McEwan for a workshop exploring
collage as a creative way of exploring care and connection with
ourselves, others and the world around us.
Over the course of the day, we’ll delve into different
collage approaches to create 3 collage pieces exploring our own
experiences, and aspirations for care and connection in our lives in
these challenging times.
As we create, we’ll have the opportunity to share together
in a gentle, supportive space.
No prior experience of art making or collage is needed, as
this workshop is not about artistic skills or abilities, but about
finding your own creative expression which we all have within us.
All materials are provided but feel free to bring along
anything you’d like to work with on the day.
The workshop is open to all adults, and includes an
hour for lunch.

Recently, we had the privilege of hosting the New York Times
bestselling writer and podcaster Gretchen Rubin on our Northumberland
and Lake District walking tour crafted by our team in Wilderness
England.
Accompanied by one of our brilliant guides, Jeremy Martin, Gretchen
and her sister Elizabeth explored beautiful heathery hills,
wave-washed coastlines and historic treasures as they embarked on an
adventure through two of England’s most distinctive national parks.
Curious about what it’s like to join a Wilderness trip? Gretchen
reflects on the time she spent travelling with us on her podcast,
where you can also listen to the daily voice memos made by the
sisters as the adventure unfolded. We love this insight:‘You might be able to hear
the sound of a waterfall in the distance. It’s a gorgeous day, we’re
surrounded by alpine flowers, and we’re almost where we’re going to
have lunch.’

TUE 18 - SAT 22 NOV 2025
BLOOD BROTHERS
Written by
Willy Russell, the legendary Blood Brothers tells the captivating
and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on
opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful
consequences.
Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi-award
winning Blood Brothers. The production ran for more than 10,000
performances in London’s West End, one of only four musicals ever
to achieve that milestone. It has been affectionately christened
the ‘Standing Ovation Musical’, as inevitably it “brings the
audience cheering to its feet and roaring its approval” (The
Daily Mail).
The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the
emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True.

KEEP
IT SECRET, KEEP IT SAFE: WAX SEALS AND LETTER-LOCKING
Christmas is often
the time for sending cards, letters and messages to loved
ones - but in an age before sealed envelopes and encrypted
WhatsApp messages, how did people ensure their messages
were safe from prying eyes?
We look at some of
the items in our collection that show how letters were
protected and kept secret in centuries past.

|
|
|
|
OF
EGGS, SHEE-SPIES AND APHRA BEHN
Over the autumn,
we've been exploring the history of ciphers and
codebreaking, with books about the subject and other items
on display during our regular Library Tours.
On our blog, we
uncover the life of a 17th century female secret agent, and
the subterfuges she and other English spies needed to use
to survive - and to share their precious intelligence.

The latest from the Jurassic Coast Trust team
Lucy Culkin, Chief Executive Officer, will be
leaving the role at the end of the year, after 7 years
with the Trust and 5 years in role as CEO. Lucy joined JCT in
September 2017, just a brief time after the Trust became responsible
for World Heritage Site Management of the Dorset and East Devon
Coast, devolved from Dorset and Devon Council. During her
tenure, Lucy has developed the strategy and led the team to deliver
the 2020-2025 Site Partnership Plan, which involves stakeholders
across the 95 mile stretch of coast.
Lauren and
Saskia took part in a Digital Leadership Programme, facilitated by
Cosmic UK, funded by Dorset Council. We highly recommend this
programme to any local businesses. You don't need to know much about
digital stuff at all but practical guidance is delivered throughout
to really enhance your business in a digital age.
You may have been fortunate enough to see the recent
exhibition to commemorate the 200th anniversary of
The Great Gale of 1824.
Dorset Coast Forum, in collaboration with the Environment Agency and
BCP Council created a free public exhibition exploring the lasting
impact of the storm.
The Great Gale Exhibition toured 5 locations across the Dorset Coast
in October and November 2024, and due to popular demand there are
plans for the exhibition to return in 2025.
https://www.dorsetcoast.com/great-gale/
- follow this link for more information and to watch a short film
about the Great Gale 1824.
Exactly 200 years later, storm Bert arrived, causing disruption and
advice to avoid coastal areas but thankfully, nothing as serious as
the Great Gale of 1824 was witnessed on the Jurassic Coast.

JURASSIC COAST
HIGHLIGHTS...
|
|
|
|
GEOLOGY
The vast time span recorded by the geology of the Jurassic
Coast is laid out like a book. Each part of the coastal landscape has a
different part of the story to tell, and offers different opportunities
for outdoor adventures. In the morning you can be rummaging on the
beach for fossils washed from dark Jurassic clay and in the afternoon you
could be striding Cretaceous chalk downs, peering across the white and
red cliffs of East Devon on your way to explore the heart of an ancient
landslide.
The World Heritage Sites 95-mile span includes
the four geographic regions of East Devon, West Dorset, Weymouth &
Portland and Purbeck – each containing their own iconic towns and villages, and distinctive natural landscapes.
Coastal towns and settlements like Exmouth, Sidmouth, Seaton, Lyme Regis, West Bay, Weymouth, Portland Port and Swanage; provide
the perfect stepping off point to explore the Jurassic Coast and the
stories it has to tell of Earth History and our place in it.

A short drive to some fantastic attractions and destinations
|
|
|
Beautiful Buckinghamshire and beyond
|
Sitting proudly in the
Buckinghamshire countryside, overlooking the Chess Valley, De Vere
Latimer Estate makes for an enchanting base for days out exploring the
local area.
If you and your little
ones are fanatical about all things Harry Potter, you'll be pleased to
know that Warner Bros. Studios Tour London - The Making of Harry Potter
is just 18 minutes' drive away - a mercifully short distance if you've
got a car full of excited muggles. In the other direction you'll find
the home of Roald Dahl, where you can explore the great man's house in
a fun-filled, interactive attraction. If culture and history are your
thing, look no further than the beautiful city of St Albans and the
atmospheric Chenies Manor - rumoured to have a secret tunnel linking it
to De Vere Latimer Estate...
Take a look at a
selection of some of our favourite destinations to help you plan your
stay with us.
