Dear,
Did you know that Chris Rea’s The Road to Hell is actually
about the bit of the M25 heading to the M4? Well, while you chew over that
fun fact, we broke down exactly there last weekend in the broiling heat,
not once but twice. First, a charming Romanian lorry driver came to our aid
but could not get the damn anti-thief wheel lock off, though luckily did
work out how to use tyre repair foam (you had to push it down and twist,
Lucy). He was swiftly followed up by a Highway Patrol chap whose sole job
it is to cruise that stretch of the M25 and help people in trouble – or
causing it. He’s been doing it for 30 years. He’s seen it all. His lungs
must be shot. But as he merrily imparted this top pop trivia while we
repacked the boot, I couldn’t help but think that this road may be hell but
at least it’s paved with people like him – and Romanian lorry drivers.
Have a great week.

SUPERMARKETS
AND SUSTAINABILITY
They’re not, let’s face it, natural bedfellows, but it’s interesting to see
who’s doing what – so we can educate ourselves and shop
our food more mindfully.
