Details of upcoming events in February and March:
Stu Hennigan in
conversation this SaturdayWhen lockdown came in 2020, Leeds librarian Stu
Hennigan volunteered as a food-parcel delivery driver. His trips through the
eerily-deserted streets took him to some of the poorest communities in the
city. Literally a lifeline for people who had been living on an economic
knife-edge for years, Ghost Signs is his first-hand account of the poverty he
encountered. Having already received national coverage from Prospect magazine
and 3:AM among others, Ghost Signs is essential reading. He'll be talking to
Annie Warren, editor, writer, translator, and stand-up comedian based in
Nottingham. She was legal editor for Thomson Reuters, is a travel editor for
the Rough Guides series, and a freelance editor at Northern indie Bluemoose.

Night Terrors: in conversation with Alice
Vernon
Ever since Alice Vernon was a child, her
nights have been haunted by nightmares of a figure from her
adolescence, sinister hallucinations, and episodes of sleepwalking.
These are known as ‘parasomnias’ – and they’re surprisingly
common.
Night Terrors, her startling and vivid
debut, examines the history of our relationship with bad dreams:
how we've tried to make sense of and treat them, from some
decidedly odd 'cures' like magical 'mare-stones', to research on
how video games might help people rewrite their dreams.
Night Terrors aims to shine a light on the
darkest parts of our sleeping lives, and to reassure sufferers
from bad dreams that they are not alone.
