Christmas Comedy @ Seven

It's more than a bit cold and miserable out there but we've a warm welcome at Seven and some great comedy theatre to cheer the soul in the run up to Christmas.

Tonight, Friday 16th December, 7.30pm it's Arts at the Arms with a fresh dose of Yorkshire talent. Bringing their trademark mix of theatre, comedy, poetry and music from local creatives showcasing original work. Great stuff. £10

Tomorrow, Saturday 17th December, 7.30pm, Land Of Nod take to the boards. Why is Jemima the book-burning student having a Black Spot nightmare? Why does Zelda the 24-breasted alien want a champion parsnip grower as her sex slave? And is there a planet made entirely of kumquat? Land of Nod answer all this and more in their sketch show. £10.

On Sunday 18th December 8pm, look forward to 'Last Night', now returning to Leeds from it’s critically acclaimed run at Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2022. David and Emma arrive at work on Christmas Eve – the only two people in the office the morning after the Christmas party. Last night, the two of them kissed.....£10

And, don't forget, we've the last Silky & Friends of 2022 on Wednesday 28th December 8pm.....what better way to see out a year many will be happy to say goodbye to. £12 /£10

If you're peckish feel free to order a pizza from Canteen Pizzas and it will be zipped across the road. Pizzas are available Wed –  Fri from 4pm and from lunchtime Sat/Sun.

Where the event is ticketed, tickets are available at TicketSource via www.sevenleeds.co.uk  We  look forward to seeing you at Seven very soon. Every £ spent at Seven helps support high quality arts in a local setting.

Book Review - Joyful Joyful

Image of book cover of Joyful Joyful. smiling black child wearing sunglasses with joyful written on each lense

We're joining our friends at BookTrust in recommending this joyous collection of stories, poems and illustrations celebrating Black voices.

The authors and illustrators are a mixture of established names - Malorie Blackman, Alex Wheatle and Dapo Adeola to name a few - while others are making their children’s books debut. The result is a fantastic variety of voice, style and atmosphere.

This is a truly beautiful book. All the illustrations are vibrantly colourful, and the overall feeling is of warmth. The preface by Patrice Lawrence is a call to joy amid the troubling news of the world – it’s important to share the power of love, of community and of kindness. As she says, this anthology ‘hums with hope’.

You can reserve a physical copy to collect from your local library, or download the ebook from Libby - there's no charge.

Christmas Booklist

Brilliant Books To Share Together

Most of the magical Christmas traditions that children love are all about building up the anticipation to December 25th. For us, there’s no better way of creating that excitement than getting stuck into a classic Christmas story together. We’ve rounded up a selection of children’s books that are perfect to curl up together with this festive season.

View and download from the Children's Christmas Books list.

Huddersfield Library is Moving!

Image of Huddersfield Library

New beginnings as Huddersfield Library relocates from building after 80 years

We're packing up and moving out of Huddersfield Library - but we're not going far. Our temporary library will be up the road in the Customer Service Centre building on Market Street. We can't wait for our new, state-of the -art, library, due to open in Spring 2026.

To mark the move, we've got a series of fabulous events throughout December, including musical entertainment via a rap workshop celebrating books, stories and libraries, a book launch featuring a Library Adventure Live! and an interactive poetry session with the awesome Matt Goodfellow. Book free tickets for our final events in the historic library building.

Visitors can access the old library until noon on New Year’s Eve when the building will close its doors to the public, marking the end of an era. The new temporary library location will be adults, children and IT facilities opening in early January 2023.

Find out more about the move and the plans for our brand new library at the centre of the cultural heart programme.
