The Silent Twins released on 9 December

A close up shot of two women, heads turned towards each other but both looking to the ground.

The new film from Agnieszka Smoczynska, director of The Lure (LIFF 2015), The Silent Twins is based on the true story of twin sisters June and Jennifer Gibbons, played by Letitia Wright and Tamara Lawrance, who rejected communication with everyone apart from each another as they were growing up in Wales. As a result, they created a rich, fascinating world to escape the reality of their own lives while becoming increasingly isolated from society.

THIS WEEK'S BREAK-EVEN LIQUID

Fanny Fougerat
Marin Fins Bois

Marin 2011 is a Hors-Série (special issue or limited edition) Cognac by auteur producer Fanny Fougerat, who specialises in innovative new ideas for Cognac.

For this Marin 2011, two casks were specially made with staves which were seasoned at an oyster farm on the island of Ré off the French coast near La Rochelle, soaking up sea spray for a year before being made into casks. A 2011 vintage Fougerat cognac from the Fins Bois appellation was then re-racked into the casks to finish for just 13 days - plenty of time for the Cognac to pick up a delicious coastal, saline edge.

Usual Price £14:90
Our Price £3:50

Cheers!

Hello

Square Chapel are delighted to be hosting a full day of events on 3rd December, to mark 250 years since the original building was constructed, 30 years since it received Arts Centre status and one year since officially reopening to the public. It is a chance for people to reminisce but to also look toward the future of Square Chapel since it recently secured funding from Arts Council England’s 2023-26 Investment Round and joins the National Portfolio of Organisations from April 2023.

We’re lending some of our celebrations to revisit the building’s compelling history and the figures affiliated with it, with the help of our favourite, local Historian, David Glover.

Square Chapel invites you to their 250th Birthday party in the Atrium Bar from 12 pm, which will continue throughout the day and will feature various local performances, culminating in live DJ sets from 8 pm.

The evening’s event will be a toast to the arts, with a Celebration Concert that will take place in Red Brick Theatre. Doors will from 6:30 pm with a performance time of 7 pm. Square Chapel have chosen to feature a line-up of local talents all of which have a special connection to the venue. Audiences can expect an evening rich in talent and diversity with a generous line-up.

What's on in December

Here's our latest updates and a glimpse of what's happening in the Kent Downs AONB next month.

In December we're excited about the launch of the North Downs Way Riders' Route, wrapping up autumn in the Downs with your incredible photos, and starting to feel festive with all the Christmas-themed events and experiences going on, including winter walks and creating your own foraged wreath.

News from the Kent Downs

Introducing the North Downs Way Riders' Route

The North Downs Way is now explorable on two wheels or four legs, thanks to the creation of a new Riders’ Route itinerary.

Our famous national trail through has undergone enhancement works in the past year to make it more accessible for both keen and amateur cyclists and our equine friends.

The linear Riders' Route follows the North Downs Way through the lush countryside, rolling hills and leafy lanes of the Kent Downs and Surrey Hills AONBs offering incredible views 365 days a year. It features challenging sections for those who like big hills, and plenty of flat paths for laid-back outings by bike or on horse back. It can also be broken up into manageable chunks for a shorter breaks and family days out.

Quiet and almost traffic free, the North Downs Way Riders' Route is easy to follow, family friendly and – above all – absolutely beautiful.

The Frenchie Mummy goes #UpTheKentDowns

This month we welcomed blogger The Frenchie Mummy to try a selection of the family experiences on offer in the Kent Downs AONB.
