LIFF 2022 on Leeds Film Player

A still from a film with a woman behind a counter in a small corner shop. There is text saying Leeds Film Player over it.

There are 17 features and 15 short film programmes from LIFF 2022 available to watch on our streaming platform Leeds Film Player from 4 to 17 November. The films will be available from different dates, and details are on schedule pages of the LIFF 2022 Guide and on the link below. A feature is £7 to rent and a short film programme £5, and there are discounted bundles available.

New Directors Competition at LIFF 2022 with eight UK Premieres

The New Directors Competition at LIFF 2022 includes UK Premieres of remarkable feature films from eight first or second-time filmmakers, six of whom are women. The competition screenings will be presented from 11 to 13 November at Vue in The Light. A jury will decide on the winning feature which will be announced on 13 November.

Leeds Short Film Awards 2022

A young man surrounded by balloons opens a small box with a shining engagemnt ring inside.

Still from the Music Video Competition

We love short films at LIFF and we have a whole programme section dedicated to them. This year’s Leeds Short Film Awards features 120 shorts from 50 countries across seven competitions, with 33 UK Premieres, 4 European Premieres, and 9 World Premieres. Each competition has a jury and the winning films will be announced and screened on 13 November at Howard Assembly Room.

LIFF 2022 Juries

We have seven juries at LIFF 2022 for the New Directors Competition and Leeds Short Film Awards, with a total of 21 people including directors, animators, producers, programmers, and film critics. Most of the jurors will be in Leeds during our main competition period from 11 to 13 November and you can view who is on the juries in the link below,

Q&As, Panels & Talks at LIFF 2022

A photo headshot of a young woman with long hair, arms crossed.

Director Celine Devaux

We are welcoming many film cast and crew members to LIFF 2022 for screenings of their features and shorts. There will be several Q&As after screenings of features, including with the lead actress of Pamfir and the directors of Everybody Loves Jeanne, Karaoke, Medusa Deluxe, and We Might As Well Be Dead. We’re also presenting panels and talks as part of the LIFF 2022 Spotlight programmes.

LIFF 2022 Audience Awards

You can give a star rating to every feature film you watch during LIFF 2022 and all ratings will count towards the audience awards which are announced at 11pm on 17 November after the last screenings have finished. This year we have brought back rating slips, instead of using the online system from last year, and they will be handed out by volunteers as you go into screenings.

LIFF 2022 Lounge at The Light

Photo of people sat on sofas and chairs with tables, the LIFF banners in the background.

We received customer feedback last year about the lack of a waiting area at Vue in The Light for between film screenings. This year we have created a small waiting lounge with seating at The Light and it is located next to the top of the escalators that lead to the first level of Vue. We hope this will be convenient for customers seeing two, three, four or even five films a day at Vue.

LIFF 2022 at Cottage Road Cinema

We love Cottage Road Cinema in Headingley, it’s a historic cinema tardis with a small façade and a giant auditorium. We extend our programming at Cottage Road for LIFF 2022 with two of the most acclaimed films of the year in Official Selection – Alcarràs and Close – and four highlights from Fanomenon – Anime Supremacy!, Fast & Feel Love, Goodbye, Don Glees!, and Project Wolf Hunting.

UK Premiere of Carlos Conceição’s stunning Tommy Guns at LIFF 2022

Angolan-born Portuguese filmmaker Carlos Conceição is a thrilling new talent to watch and his third feature is a dark, powerful, and breathtaking exploration of war, fear, and tyranny. Receiving its UK Premiere at LIFF 2022, Tommy Guns is set in Angola in 1974 as Portuguese colonists flee and nationalists advance, and it tells the stories of a tribal girl and an isolated squad of soldiers.

THIS WEEK'S BREAK-EVEN LIQUID

Glendronach 21 Year Old Parliament

This 21 year old from Glendronach was released in 2011, and aged in a mix of sherry casks (Oloroso and sweet Pedro Ximenez dessert sherry). The result is really very good indeed.

Interestingly enough, this whisky has no political associations. It is, in fact, named "Parliament" after the collective term for a group of rooks - and there is a Parliament of Rooks living in the trees near GlenDronach...

This stuff is unbelievably rare, so raise your glass to the fine people of Latitude Wine and Liquor Merchant for sourcing this for us!

Usual price £33.93
Our Price £7.56

Cheers!
