Cleckheaton Writers Group minutes, meeting Monday 7 November 2022

Cleckheaton Writers Group (CWG) met on Monday 7 November 5.30-7pm with Karen, Dali, Gemma and Kathy in attendance, Cassie, Barbara, Michelle and Alice having passed on their apologies.

The minutes from the last meeting were passed.

WIP updates: Karen has sent a submission of her MG fantasy for her 1-1 with Katie Blagden at the SCBWI conference in November, submitted to the CBC scholarship (which she didn't get), and pitched to Darley Anderson as part of #PitchtoDA on Twitter and received a like for her romantic suspense novel. She has also received a rejection from Kelly Dykerhouse and wasn't chosen for the Patricia Eschen Poetry Prize. She has been working on perfecting her submission for DA. Gemma has been editing. Kathy has written a drabble for the Halloween writing challenge, which she brought along. Dali has written two dribbles with the Halloween theme and brought those along.

CW comps/workshops/events: Subnivean magazine has a call out for stories/poems to represent your region for their November/December issue. Anyone who wants the details to contact Karen and she will send you the link.

Feedback sessions: Kathy shared her Halloween drabble which was as yet untitled. It was well received and CWG workshopped which words might be taken out to enable a title. Dali shared her two dribbles, one from a squirrel's POV, and a short story entitled An Unusual Encounter at the Petrol Station which she had written in 2015. This led to a discussion on paintings inspiring stories. Karen then shared her synopsis for her submission and was given some excellent feedback.

Writing plans: Karen will be editing and hoping to write some new words as part of NaNoWriMo. Gemma will be editing. Kathy hopes to edit her Tobias MS and write a November themed dribble or drabble. Dali hopes to write another dribble.

Writing challenge: The November theme is Fireworks/Thanksgiving

The next meeting will take place on Monday 21 November at 5.30pm at Cleckheaton Library.
