Once
upon a time there was an author named Little Read Writing Good. After
packing a basket of treats, Writing Good would spend afternoons
enjoying baked goods and reading her latest story or poem to her grandmother,
who lived a short distance away in the forest.
Grandmother
often encouraged Writing Good to share her work more widely by
submitting it to literary journals. At first, Writing Good was
hesitant, but as time passed, she grew more confident. She had written
a strong piece of prose she was particularly proud of and was looking
forward to reading it to Grandmother.
But
that afternoon, Writing Good dreamt she was running through the forest
to Grandmother’s house. When she knocked on the door, Grandmother’s
usual cheerful greeting sounded more like a growl. Thinking Grandmother
just wasn’t feeling well, Writing Good went inside and noticed
Grandmother also wasn’t looking well; her face was covered in fur, her
nose had grown very long, and she had lots of sharp teeth.
|
|
“Grandmother,
how wolflike your features are!” cried Writing Good. “And why are you
holding a REJECTION stamp in your hand—er, paw?”
“I’m
NOT your grandmother; I’m all your writerly insecurities rolled up into
your worst nightmare! Your story is not ready to be submitted. You
should rewrite it. And you don’t have time to research markets. Even if
you do, it’s unlikely you’ll choose the right ones. Get ready for the
rejection letters!”
The
Insecurity Wolf started stamping “REJECTED” all over Writing Good’s
hands. Writing Good woke with a start to find Grandmother gently
tapping her on the hand, trying to wake her.
Writing
Good confided to Grandmother that she was indeed feeling very overwhelmed
by the submission process—and worried there wasn’t enough time in a day
to devise a smart submission strategy while also keeping up with her
writing. “I should just take a woodsman’s axe to my writing and give
up” she said.
|
|
Grandmother
assured her there was an alternative to chopping her writing to bits.
“All you need is Writer’s
Relief! They’ve been helping creative writers make effective
submissions to literary journals and agents for over twenty-eight
years!”
She
explained that the experts at Writer’s Relief would format and
proofread her work, create a cover or query letter, and target her
writing to the most suitable markets. “They constantly research
journals and agents to keep their markets up to date. Why, since 1994
their clients have received 23,758 acceptances…807 so far in 2022
alone! And they’re reading submissions from potential new clients right
now, so let’s send your writing to the Writer’s Relief Review
Board.”
Writing
Good submitted her work, which the Review Board accepted! With Writer’s
Relief’s help, she began making regular submissions of all her pieces.
Little Read Writing Good now had more time to write! And soon she had
acceptances from literary journals! She did her happy dance and
celebrated by buying a trendy new cape—in red, her favorite
color.
|
|
For
a limited time, the Writer’s Relief Review Board is considering writing
samples from authors who hope to join out client list.
