Creative Kirklees newsletter

Detailing upcoming creative events in Kirklees:

Creative Kirklees Newsletter 2 August 2022

If you’re looking for children’s activities during the school holidays we have some great suggestions for you.  The Summer Reading Challenge is back for 2022 – “Gadgeteers” is all about reading, science and innovation and children can sign up at any Kirklees library; there are some free, fun drama workshops coming up in Mirfield involving the scripts of two much-loved children's books and the Summer Blast is taking place across 5 sites in Kirklees - everything is completely free and there is no need to book in advance.  These are just a few ideas for you - do scroll down to see more!

As for the grown ups, you can enjoy a simply beautiful evening of music on Friday (5 August) as the Clouds Harp Quartet perform in New Mill (part of Holmfirth Arts Festival), you can continue to enjoy Summer in the Courtyard at the LBT (this Friday its local band Fishing For Compliments), there’s an open air theatre production of Romeo and Juliet coming up at Oakwell Hall on 18 August, and there are some gorgeous workshops to get involved in at Globe Arts Studio in Slaithwaite.  More ideas in the newsletter and on our website.

For the grown ups and the children - don’t forget the Sangam Festival continues until 17 August, and still has lots to offer, and the LBT are presenting ‘The Gunpower Plot’ this Wednesday (3 August), a brand new, calamitous production fit for all the family!

Finally, a date for your diary - on the afternoon of Sunday 21 August, Huddersfield’s St George’s Square will be filled with music, dance, theatre and film with a special event to mark the 75th anniversary of independence in India and Pakistan!

Have a great week everyone, especially those enjoying time off – we hope you manage to get involved in some of the great stuff that’s going on.
