With thanks to Country and Townhouse, here are five ideas of things to do in London this week/end:
Why this new London art space is making waves, and the
sky-high dining experience to book now

We have a gorgeous new
print issue coming to you this week. Get your mitts on The Sustainability Edition,
which features so many brilliant products, brands, ideas and people
to help us live more consciously. You’ll gorge on features with
wilding author Isabella Tree, ClientEarth founder, James Thornton
(the lawyer whose only client is the planet) and the loftily titled
High Level Climate Action Champion, Nigel Topping, aka the man who’s
really running COP26. We’re making sustainability the hottest thing
since sliced bread. Do join us.
Have a great week.

WHAT’S
KEEPING MY SPIRITS UP

Creating the Future
There are few conferences
(congratulations Roger Weatherby and Mike Dickson) that can pull in
the calibre of guests that Creating The Future
offers. I went to the real life event two years ago and it blew me
away. This year, it’s going virtual (natch) on 12 May, so I urge you
to sign up immediately to
hear Tabitha Goldstaub, chair of the AI Council and food futurologist
Dr Morgaine Gaye, among other eminent names. You’ll come away smarter
and with a surfeit of fascinating dinner party chat. Image: Tabitha

Kefir
Thanks to colleague and Great British Brands
editor, Charlotte Metcalf, I’m now a fully paid up subscriber to Chuckling Goat Kefir.
It’s traditionally handmade with live grains and goats’ milk in Wales
and fizzes like a bottle of shaken champagne when you open it (read
the instructions). But I just know that drinking that tart, fizzing
goodness is making my gut bacteria very
grateful indeed.

A holiday hideaway?
I can’t work out my
feelings about holidaying abroad this summer. I’m torn between
wanting to support the travel industry and preferring to stay in
Blighty with a lower carbon footprint and avoiding testing fees and
airport queues. If I were to go away though, I’d be sorely tempted by
these gorgeous rural retreats.

FIVE THINGS
YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS
|
|
Dine in the Sky
How does Michelin-starred
food in the sky sound? This June, chef Alyn Williams is running a
two-day supper club experience in
The Observatory, a new bar on the 53rd floor of
botanical-themed development Wardian London.
|
|
Art in the Age of Now
After sitting empty for a
decade, Fulham Town Hall is getting a new lease of life as an
eclectic art space. Titled Art in the Age of Now,
the exhibition utilises every inch of the building, showcasing works
from Conrad Shawcross – who features on this week's Break Out Culture – and Charlotte Colbert.
|
|
The Summer Shepherd’s
Hideaway Experience
One of the handcrafted
shepherd’s huts at private island UK hotel Monkey Island Estate has
been transformed into a rustic suntrap, ready to welcome groups of
six. The new experience includes an afternoon at the hideaway,
complete with a gourmet picnic hamper and sparkling wine.
|
|
The Al Fresco Theatre
Cruise up to The Al Fresco Theatre to
enjoy live theatre, movies, comedy gigs and food from top chefs
– all from the comfort of your car. The event is travelling
round the country this summer, with Tom Kerridge, Rick Stein and
Jason Atherton all featuring in the food line-up.
|
|
Piecemeal Rhythm
Head to the Timothy Taylor
Gallery in Mayfair this month to see the first UK solo exhibition
from LA-based artist Hilary Pecis. A bright, sunny show, Piecemeal Rhythm captures
the lush landscapes of California, with inspiration from early
Modernist painters like Matisse.

I am having a colour
feeding frenzy, and can’t get enough. Little Greene has decreed
yellow to be the paint star of ‘21/22 (it has two new yellows in its
latest collection). To get your fix look at the kaleidoscope of ideas
we spotted on Instagram. Sunshine means
picnic time, I go all-out
on ambience and tableware – beautiful fabrics as tablecloths and
cutlery that doesn’t yield to a sausage. Get the styling right and
simple fare turns gourmet – raw veg elevated to crudites and a
simple cake to a gateau.
Have an extra slice for me.

Devon-based Naturalmat
would have to work hard to become more sustainable than it
already is (its biodegradable natural fibre mattresses are a game
changer) but the Appledore bed has raised the bar again.
The frame is handmade in FSC certified unvarnished beech and the
headboard from coconut fibres, recycled denim and natural wool.
