Cleckheaton Writers Group (CWG) met on Monday evening on Zoom with Alice, Gemma, Karen and Sarah in attendance, Andrea, Daniel and Neil having passed on their apologies.
The minutes from the previous meeting were passed.
WIP updates: Alice has been writing since yesterday, having been jumping around between WIPs up to then. She has started work on a brand new 4th WIP. Gemma has done 55 hours of editing this month. Sarah mentioned a good article regarding escalation which she shared with the CWG:
Sarah has been working on structural edits to book 2 in May, started work on book 3 (writing 12k words) and taken part in two workshops: Professional Writing Academy Graham Bartlett course on custody and interviewing techniques and a Crime Writers Association (CWA) forensic workshop.

The CWA workshops are £5 if not a member and Sarah will let CWG members know when the next set are. Karen has submitted novel 8 to agents and publishers and entered it into the Comedy Women in Print Prize. She has also written several chapters on her WIP (novel 9) and received an offer letter and contract for a publishing deal in the U.S. for her rom com novel.
Feedback sessions: No work shared for feedback.
CW events/workshops/competitions: The Jericho Writers Summer Festival starts in June with three months of writing events. There is a 50% discount if you pay a monthly subscription. Alice shared an Eventbrite writing for children event raising money for Alzheimers charity: how to build and survive a writing career fundraiser tickets (the author is taking part for free for proceeds to Alzheimers charity). The Bath Novel Prize, The Bridport Prize and the Blue Pencil First Novel competition deadlines are 31 May (fees to pay for these) and #PitMad takes place on 3 June where you can pitch your novel to U.S. agents/publishers via Twitter.

Writing plans: Sarah hopes to carry on with book 3. Gemma to carry on editing. Alice to try and stay on story (not start on 4 new ones by next meeting) writing new words. Karen hopes to edit novel 6 (and possibly her crime novel) and continue writing her WIP (novel 9).
The next meeting will take place on Zoom at 5.45pm (same codes as this meeting) on Monday 7 June 2021.
