Summer
holidays...the sunshine is (hopefully) out, which means the kids are at
home. Don't let summer go to waste - get them involved in our 'Summer
Reading Challenge". For ages 4-11 years old, there's something for
everyone over the months of July, August and September.

Flame 2017 is back
this year...
Back by popular
demand, don’t miss Flame 2017 in a few weeks’ time. The event will be held
in Crow Nest Park, in Dewsbury, between 11am and 3pm on Thursday 27 July
2017. Activities include archery, a fun run, climbing wall and football.

'Be Clear On
Cancer' roadshow comes to Kirklees
The 'Be Clear On
Cancer' roadshow is visiting Kirklees to raise awareness of the signs of
heart disease, lung cancer and lung disease and to encourage those with
symptoms to visit their GP. Our roadshow will be at The Packhorse Shopping
Centre in Huddersfield on Saturday 15 July.
‘Jazz in the
Garden’ at Tolson Museum
This Sunday, there
will be an entertaining afternoon filled with the sound of The
Musicakirklees Jazz Group , who'll be playing in the Heritage Memorial
Garden at the rear of the museum. The concert is totally free, and it
sounds like a great day out.
Love theatre and
dance? Don't miss this...
Next weekend enjoy
something completely different – see Welsh theatre company Citrus Art put
on a magical show at our amazing venue, Oakwell Hall. It follows the story
of a 19th century aristocrat, haunted by the ghosts of his past, including
a family of deer. Featuring theatre and dance, it’s an open-air event so
pack a picnic, chairs and a rug.

Revelation - Exhibition
Kate’s stunning
artworks take cutting edge images of cells from the laboratories at the
University of Sheffield which she digitally prints onto canvas. The
artworks can be seen at Huddersfield Art Gallery until the end of August.
Pledging our
support for the Armed Forces
This week Kirklees
Council and our partners, pledged support for Britain's servicemen and
women by signing the Armed Forces Covenant. This acknowledges our close
co-operation with the Armed Forces Community.

Our Summer Activities
Programme for young people is returning this year and will give our young
people the opportunity to meet new friends, be entertained and most of all,
have fun during the summer break. We've made a list of events that we think
kids will love this summer.

Our current litter and
dog fouling enforcement trial is going well, and as a result we will soon
be looking for a long term partner.

Congratulations to
everyone who got their results this week. We are very proud that once
again you have topped the national average, which just goes to show how
dedicated and hardworking our young people are.

Greenhead Park

There's plenty for
families to see and do in Greenhead Park, Huddersfield this weekend.
Including the popular 'Kirklees Summer Show', and the first Charity Fete
hosted by Natural Kirklees. From flowers, vegetables and crafts - to nordic
walking and a duck salad bar.

Museums &
Galleries, changes to opening hours
We won't talk about it
too much, but the nights are going to get darker, which means our Museums
and Galleries opening times will change too. We've collected the times so
they're clear for visitors to understand.
Community centres
to be transferred to community groups
Following a recent
meeting, Cabinet have agreed to the transfer of two community buildings.
The two buildings are; Birstall Community Centre, and Honley Community
Centre.
Do you travel between Grange Moor and Colne Bridge?
Liley Lane will be
closed through the evening of 14, 15 and 16 August 2017 from 7:30pm to 6am,
as workers will be working in the middle of the road. We've made sure that
those who live or work on the road are able to gain access, please read our
article for more information.
Congratulations to
Cliffe House 🏆
Well done to our very
own Cliffe House, who have recently been recognised by
British Orienteering for providing a positive first experience
for visiting groups. They've got a super fun adventure playground, and
provide activities and events for all ages.
