Summer Bands in Leeds Parks gets underway this month, there's plenty of free al fresco concerts all across the city to choose from. Find out where the music is taking place near you!

Don't miss the extraordinary Leonkoro Quartet perform its final concert of this year in Leeds; the quartet's carefully crafted programme features romantic music by Giacomo Puccini, Felix Mendelssohn, and Johannes Brahms.

Giacomo Puccini's short and eloquent elegy Crisantemi opens the Leonkoro Quartet's final programme of its 2024 residency. The talented musicians also perform Felix Mendelssohn's lyrical and energetic Quartet Op 44, No 2 and Johannes Brahms's texturally rich Quartet Op 51, No 1.

City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra

The internationally acclaimed City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra performs in the stunning setting of Harrogate's Royal Hall under the expert baton of Ludovic Morlot. The orchestra's rich and varied programme spans three centuries, featuring Caroline Shaw’s Entr’acte, Carl Maria von Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No 2 with soloist Oliver Janes, and Symphony No 2 by Jean Sibelius. Tickets are available to book online or by phone. U18s go for £5.

Millennium Square is set to host some of the most exciting acts in music this summer as it gears up for the highly anticipated Summer Series. Bringing a vibrant festival atmosphere right to the heart of Leeds, this annual extravaganza returns with thirteen nights of unmissable gigs, including Classical Hits, 80s Classical, Paloma Faith, and many more. Music aficionados will be treated to an eclectic combination of emerging artists and globally renowned icons.

Join the Orchestra of Opera North and a host of special guests on Friday 19 July for an open-air concert brimming with classical favourites from stage and silver screen.

Let the epic thrills of John Williams’ most famous movie themes transport you to other worlds and even other galaxies. Be blown away by the vocal fireworks of opera’s biggest-hitters, with masterpieces from Bizet, Puccini and more.

Classical Hits includes some of the best-loved pieces from iconic Hollywood blockbusters, from Star Wars to Jurassic Park, and popular operas including Carmen and La bohème, powered by the full orchestra for a glorious summer celebration.

Chaka Khan is excited to create a festival that's a celebration of community – as she says, ‘We are all family’, a statement that is literally reflected in her line-up.

Our exciting summer exhibition opens this month

 

Get set for Game On, the world’s largest interactive exhibition about the history and culture of video games, opening Sat 29 Jun. From Space Invaders to Sonic the Hedgehog and Mario to Minecraft, play more than 100 arcade, handheld and console games spanning the last 50 years. Explore the creative and technological advances that have revolutionised the games we play, the wider cultural impact of the industry, and Scotland’s own vibrant gaming sector.  

On the first Sunday of each month, we will be offering Relaxed Viewings where visitor numbers will be reduced and the volume of some games turned down.

Exhibition curated and organised by the Barbican Centre.

This Feeling By The Sea

 

 

 

After a triumphant debut event in 2023, the rock 'n' roll club night, record label and taste makers This Feeling will bring their By The Sea festival back to Bridlington for its second event which runs from September 6th & 7th. This Feeling By The Sea 2024 will be headlined by The Royston Club (Fri) and The K's (Sat) alongside an A-Z of contemporary and rising indie and alternative talent. As with last year's festival, every single artist on the bill has emerged via This Feeling shows held in grassroots venues across the UK.
