This is a fun, engaging, romantic comedy of mistaken identities, of finding (then losing- for a while at least-) The One, or is it more than one fella? For when the two guys look so alike but behave so differently it's easy to see why Evie is completely confused. But at least her life isn't boring any more. On the horizon is an invite to spend Christmas in Capri. I've been to Capri and would walk over hot coals and several family members' bodies, to go back, so Evie hopes for the best, juggles her dates, and along the way falls hard. But who is the love of her life? Luca or Romano? Afterall one is a lawyer and the other helps out at his sister's tearooms.
Karen Naylor mines the humour of these romantic encounters of mixed-up identities, and intentions with great wit and skill, keeping us, the reader, and her protagonist, the titular Evie, florist extraordinnaire, dangling, never sure exactly what is going to happen next or who with. It's a game of revolving doors and keeping characters apart, and it's no mean writerly feat. Impressively done.
Needless to say the path for Evie to true love (and along the way some amazing sex - I'd say this is a spicy and saucy read) is not smooth. But I was rooting for Evie all the way, she's the sort of girl you'd want as a mate, and want her to find her heart's desire. Does it work out for her? Well, read it to find out.
