Dear Reader,

Emily, John, Lewis, Rory, Alistair, Adam, Chris, Laura, Paddy… I listen to them all, plugging my ears with the latest political news dissected in the way that podcasts now can – this is not newsreading, this is news as entertainment. And because it is generally so dramatic nowadays (like a former American president being convicted of felony crimes), it’s like living in a live-streamed reality show. But is it good for me to be imbibing so much? And am I addicted to it? Quite possibly. After all, it doesn’t empower me to do anything about it. It’s not making me more intellectual or, more importantly, if you want to not be a nervous wreck, more relaxed. So I’ve been handed a useful book, Stop Reading The News, by Rolf Dobelli. And instead of walking home with The Newsagents, I’m listening to Anne Glenconner’s biography, Whatever Next? A question that could well be applied to our political universe, but instead I’m in a world of aristocratic idiosyncrasy and it’s a lot less anxiety-making, if no less dramatic.

Have a great week.

I’ve recently been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, so I’m going to be on tablets forever to try and balance it out. But a friend also told me that cutting down gluten and lactose could be beneficial. I’m going to make enquiries. How balanced are your hormones? Here are some key signs to look for.

Are You Swicy Enough?
