Dear
Reader,
|
Friendship was the theme so
beautifully touched upon by His Royal Highness
the King in his Maundy
Thursday speech last week. It’s something I reflect on again and
again – my two greatest friends I have known since we were 11
with knock-knees (actually mine were more podgy than theirs) and
terrible haircuts, entering our daunting secondary school.
An hour with them is tonic, something that no pill can touch. Shared values, shared memories,
a sense of the ridiculousness when everything feels tough around
you – it’s the grounding and rooting nature of a deep friendship
that is our salve. So here, on Easter Day, among the chocolate eggs and the roasts (vegan or otherwise), let us raise a toast
to our friends, without whom we are lonely vessels.
|
Happy Easter.
