Williamson 2015 Single Cask Islay Malt Whisky

60.8% ABV

There are a few distilleries that are near impossible to source casks from, however, casks of anonymous makes are occasionally made available under trade names.
Williamson is the trade name for a well-known Islay distillery, we can’t say what it is, but if you were to jump from Port Ellen to Lagavulin you might just Leap Frog it… This feisty whisky surges from the glass on a gale of sooty peat, turf, iodine, and lanolin oils.
Herein lies great complexity, unlocked by a teaspoon or so of water and a little time.

Our Price £4.07
Usual Price £17.64

We’re embracing the theatrics of our temporary new home and bringing you some of the best theatrical adaptations and inspirations.

From the powerful drama of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Billy Elliot to the joy of Barefoot in the Park, this strand shows how the power of a great story can transcend mediums.

Later in the month we’ve got two unmissable one-night-only screenings, as the madcap musicals Hedwig and the Angry Inch and The Rocky Horror Picture Show are sure to be a riotous night out.

LOVE IS

We couldn’t pass by Valentine’s Day without a programme of romantic classics. Our Love Is strand takes a look at the many different forms romance can take.

Love is fantastical in The Shape Of Water; love is heartbreaking In The Mood For Love, and love is passionate in Portrait of a Lady on Fire. But whatever form love takes, this absorbing series of films is sure to leave you completely swooning at the screen.

If a Galentine’s Day screening is more your thing, then don’t miss our one-night-only screening of Legally Blonde on 10 February. With a free glass on fizz with the film, bring along your nearest and dearest and embrace your inner blonde with Elle Woods’ transformation from sorority girl to hotshot lawyer.

Discover Ireland in Spring

Embrace the Spirit of Spring

Hi,

Join us today as we celebrate Imbolc, an ancient festival marking the official start of spring on the Gaelic calendar. As we welcome the arrival of spring, we also honour the feast day of one of our beloved patron saints, St. Brigid.

As the new season unfolds, witness the vibrant floral carpets blanketing the landscapes, breathe in the fresh spring air, and feel the joy as newborn lambs playfully skip around the lush green fields. Spring signals a fresh start, casting away the remnants of the dark winter season and reminding us that brighter days are here.

February in the Kent Downs

Read on for our latest updates and a peek at what's happening in the Kent Downs National Landscape over the next month.

This month, we're launching a new Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) project, embracing brisk winter walks that end in a cosy pub, and looking for new recruits for the Kent Downs team.

Introducing Putting Down Routes

We’re thrilled to announce we’ve been awarded a £250,000 grant by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Defra’s Farming in Protected Landscapes programme for our brand new Putting Down Routes project.

It is widely acknowledged that the countryside is not always a diverse or inclusive place, so we’re seeking to address these challenges head-on. The two-year project is dedicated to improving physical access and equality, diversity and inclusion along the North Downs Way National Trail. Our goal is to create a more accessible and welcoming environment for individuals from underrepresented groups.

Putting Down Routes is funded through Defra’s Farming In Protected Landscapes programme and The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thank you to National Lottery players for making this project possible.

5 Winter Walks with a Cosy Pub

A haven for hikers, the Kent Downs National Landscape has no shortage of walking trails. But with the chilly winter months in full swing, it can be hard to find the enthusiasm to swap your slippers for walking boots. Don’t worry, we’ve got the perfect solution: a winter walk with a cosy pub at the end!

We’ve rounded up five of our favourite winter walks in the Kent Downs, and best of all, they all include a stop at one of Kent’s finest country pubs, complete with historic features and open log fireplaces.

Events in the Kent Downs
There's lots going on in the Downs during February, here's a selection of upcoming events we think you'll love.

Samuel Palmer: Visionary Landscapes Exhibition
Sevenoaks Kaleidoscope Galley

Barn owl project takes flight

Last year Kent Downs National Landscape funded the installation of eight new barn own nesting boxes in the Darent Valley. Working in partnership with local landowners, Kent Wildlife Trust and the North West Kent Countryside Partnership installed the boxes that were made by a local Men in Sheds group in early 2023.

Excitingly, a pair of barn owls were already occupying one of the boxes at the beginning of this year, but unfortunately disaster struck late in January when Storm Isha blew the tree down. A team of volunteers headed out last week to relocate the box to a new tree, and we're now waiting to see if the owls return.

Nesting season for barn owls begins in March, and with each box regularly monitored, we're hopeful that'll we'll be welcoming some new feathered residents to the Darent Valley very soon.

This project is supported by the Kent Downs National Landscape through the DEFRA funded Farming in Protected Landscapes programme.

Join the Kent Downs Team

We are on the lookout for talented individuals. So, if you’re passionate about enhancing, protecting, and restoring our amazing National Landscape for everyone to enjoy, we want to hear from you!

We’re currently recruiting for three new roles, a
Heritage Ponds Officer, Project Manager and Communications and Engagement Manager.

In return, you’ll get to join a great team, embrace a fulfilling role that will truly make a difference, and benefit from hybrid and flexible working.

Kent Downs National Landscape is committed to building a workforce which reflects the diversity of Kent’s working residents, encouraging applications from people of all ages, abilities, genders, sexual orientations, ethnic backgrounds, faiths and those with caring responsibilities, and aspires to create an inclusive workplace where everyone can be themselves at work.  People of colour and disabled people are currently underrepresented across our service. If you identify as a person of colour and/or are disabled, we are particularly interested in receiving your application.

Places to visit in the Kent Downs
Looking for inspiration for your next adventure in the Downs? Look no further! Here's our top spot to visit this February..

Cobham Wood and Mausoleum

This 190-acre wood pasture is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its diverse ecosystems, including ancient woodland, heathland, and grassland. Look out for the herd of Highland cattle who graze here to help restore the woodland pasture, enabling the mosaic of grasses, herbaceous plants and scrub.

Standing at the highest point of the site is the 18th century Darnley Mausoleum, an 18th-century neoclassical structure designed by James Wyatt. The Earl of Darnley commissioned this family mausoleum after the vaults in Westminster Abbey (where they were usually buried) became full. Despite being completed in 1796, at a cost of over £1,000,000 in today's money, the mausoleum was never actually used for burials as it wasn't consecrated. The mausoleum, now owned by the National Trust, was restored in 2014 and is open to the public on special days from April to September.

Please note, there is no parking at Cobham Wood. If you're planning a visit, the nearest car park is at Shorne Woods Country Park, a two mile walk away.
