POWER is optimistic,
uplifting, funny, physical and moving. Australian circus
strong-lady, Charmaine Childs, celebrates the ways we
can feel powerful, even in an uncertain world.
Trying to learn how to overcome uncertainty, Childs
asked people of all walks of life the same question: Can you
tell me about a time when you felt really powerful? The result
is Power,
combining her own story with the extraordinary experiences of
‘ordinary’ people.

In 2011 peace gave way to violence, again.
This time it was Syria, but it has been thousands of
other places previously. It has happened before and it
will, history suggests, happen again.
In 2018, Invisible Man Theatre
sat with dozens of Syrian refugees now living in the
UK, to ask what it was like to be one of the
families trapped on the ground, facing mortal threat.
From hours of honest, harrowing but resilient testimony
from refugees, of all social and economic status’, came
the play, How to be Lucky.
The production is a one-man show performed
in English that features genuine images of the Syrian
war. Viewer discretion is advised.

Carriageworks Young Theatre Makers
|
|
|
|
|
|
The Carriageworks Young Theatre Makers (CYTM) are young people aged 10 – 18 who
meet weekly to develop skills as performers, writers
and directors.
Members build drama skills and confidence
by creating and performing original plays in the
environment of a professionally run theatre. By
developing innovative shows from conception through to
performance, members increase their knowledge of
working in theatre and form a supportive group where
their creativity is nurtured and they are offered a
genuine platform for their ideas.
Due to high levels of interest, young
people are invited to attend a taster session/informal
audition.
Please email Ruth Cooper to
register your interest for the CYTM Autumn Term.

The Carriageworks Theatre will be hosting a new youth theatre group
in September for 9 - 11 year olds (school years 5 and
6), alongside the existing Carriageworks Young Theatre
Makers (CYTM). Sessions will run weekly on
Saturdays from September 2022, led by fully DBS
checked professional Directors. Participants will
perform the work they have created in January and
July.
Thanks to specific funding from Arts
Council England, intended to increase diversity and
participation in high-quality youth theatre provision,
there are places in the new group which are FREE
to pupils who are entitled to free school meals or
attend one of our partner Primary Schools (Blenheim or
Ingram Rd).
Anyone interested in joining Generate
should get in touch with Ruth Cooper for more
information.
