What's coming up at Theatre Royal Wakefield       Brassed Off Wednesday 28 September - Saturday 1 October, 7:30pm  Saturday matinee 1pm   Told through the eyes of Shane, he tells us of the struggles affecting the small Yorkshire mining community of Grimley.   A community that's fighting to maintain dignity and hope when it has it's heart ripped out by Government pit closures of the 1980s.   It is a story of triumph, music and the human spirit over hardship and despondency.     A Perfect Likeness Wednesday 5 October, 7:30pm   Reclusive writer and photographer Charles Dodgson (also known as ‘Lewis Carroll’) invites celebrity author Charles Dickens to his Oxford home to pose for a portrait.    Dickens is so intrigued by the whimsical Alice's Adventures in Wonderland that he accepts. What ensues is a baring of two creative souls, the one private and fastidious, the other boisterous and irreverent.    The result is a hilarious and revealing conversation between two quirky, fascinating, and completely different men.          Lipstick On Your Collar Friday 7 October, 7:30pm   Get your dancing shoes at the ready, grab yourself a milkshake and relax - you are in for an evening of back to back hits from the 1950s and ‘60s!   From the birth of Rock ‘n’ Roll through to the Beat Group sounds of the British Invasion and beyond, the show is packed with over forty hits from the likes of Connie Francis, Brenda Lee, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, The Beatles, The Ronettes, Cliff Richard, Cilla Black and many more.   Performed by a full live band, featuring some of the country's top musicians, this incredible show features excellent vocals, tight harmonies and an infectious sense of fun.     Shrek the Musical Tuesday 11 - Saturday 15 October, 7:15pm Saturday matinee 2:15pm   Shrek The Musical brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage, and proves there's more to the story than meets the ears.   An unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero.   Irreverently fun for the whole family, Shrek proves that beauty is truly in the eye of the ogre.         The Nutcracker Tuesday 18 October, 7:30pm   Crown Ballet comes to the UK to enchant you with the delightful production of The Nutcracker - a charming and kindly fairy tale is one of the jewels of Tchaikovsky's repertoire.   Prepare to enter a magical new world – the nutcracker in this ballet may be a handsome prince in disguise.   This eternal seasonal favourite will be an unforgettable journey in the run-up to Christmas and an ideal introduction to audiences of any age to the magic that is classical ballet.   A wonderful treat full of glitter for the whole family!     The Black Blues Brothers Wednesday 19 October, 7:30pm   No one can resist the energy of The Black Blues Brothers in their acrobatic tribute to the legendary cult movie.   Expect jaw- dropping balancing acts, acrobatics with fire and human pyramids as The Black Blues Brothers use every chair, table and coat rack as part of their breathtaking routines!   Set in a nightclub, reminiscent of the Cotton Club, a vintage radio blasts out all of your favourite hits from the film, including Gimme Some Lovin’,Sweet Home Chicago and Soul Man.   Everybody needs someone to love, and The Black Blues Brothers need you, you and you to get up and get down with them!         The Legends of American Country Show Thursday 20 October, 7:30pm   Now seen by over 350,000 fans live and watched by millions on TV Europe’s No.1 multi award winning show, The Legends of American Country returns for another fantastic night of toe tapping Country nostalgia.   Showcases highly acclaimed tributes to Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Don Williams, Patsy Cline and Kenny Rogers and new tributes to icons Hank Williams, Charley Pride, Glen Campbell, Tammy Wynette, John Denver and Jim Reeves with countless other well-known singalong hit songs in this must see musical extravaganza.     The Power Ballad Show Friday 21 October, 7:30pm   The Power Ballad Show is a celebration of one of the most creative and emotionally charged periods in the history of music transporting the audience back to a time when hair was big, and voices were even bigger.    You'll find yourself singing along to hit after hit from artists such as Rainbow, Heart, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, Tina Turner, Alannah Myles and many more...   The Power Ballad Show promises a high quality evening of entertainment that has been described as ‘truly a night to remember’.         Carl Hutchinson Saturday 22 October, 7:30pm   After two consecutive sell-out tours, Carl returns to Wakefield with a brand new show!   Expect stories, observations & audience interaction.
