WHAT’S
KEEPING MY SPIRITS UP
|
|
Quilts
I still have two quilts
that belonged to my grandmother which must make them at least 70
years old. You can trace the cotton of each patch of handsewn
material and although there are some threadbare patches, they have
held up remarkably well and mean so much as a generational link. I
love their old-fashioned nature and their cosiness, so I’ve tracked down
some lovely ones – which one day could become family
heirlooms in their own right.
|
|
Gut Health
We are all now so well
educated when it comes to the link between mental and physical health
– a healthy gut. A vibrant, diverse microbiome does a happy person
make (at least it helps). My guru when it comes to looking after your
gut is the nutritionist Eve Kalinik who shares for us her in-depth 23 step guide to
bringing the bloom back to your belly. Yes, it mentions
kimchi and kombucha,
but also the benefits of nature,
movement and meditation.

ClientEarth
ClientEarth is the
not-for-profit environmental legal firm whose sole aim is to protect
its one client – Earth. To this end the talented troupe of lawyers,
headed up by the magical James Thornton (also poet, Buddhist and
named by The New Statesman as ‘one of 10 people
who could change the world’), files lawsuits against everyone from
governments and big business downwards who break environmental laws.
They’ve had some big wins. If you want to get behind something that’s
really making a difference, you’ve found them. I’m interviewing James
next week for our Sustainability issue later this year and will be
asking him what difference he thinks Covid has made to climate
change.
