BPA First Novel Award and Client
Success
Team BPA has been celebrating a few success stories
from our clients and recent competition stand-outs, and we hope
you've made some steps forward in your writing journey this year,
whether it's 1,000 more words on the page, an acceptance from a
litmag or interest from a literary agent or publisher.
Congratulations to our 2020 BPA First Novel Award winner, Róisín Lanigan, who has signed
with judge Carrie Plitt after impressing with her literary novel Brotherhood.
'Winning
during the pandemic made things feel even more unreal, but even
though I couldn’t meet the Blue Pencil team in person, I felt
incredibly supported and involved and was then able to meet one of
the judges, FBA’s Carrie Plitt, over Zoom to discuss my manuscript.
Carrie’s continued guidance and expertise (and the depth of
feedback of the rest of the BPA First Novel Award judging team) was
really invaluable and helped me to see my work through a new
perspective, whilst supporting me to get it ready for publication.'
In Pitch
Prize news, we're so happy for 2019 winner Ella King, who has signed a
two-book deal with HarperFiction (in a 5-way auction might we add).
Ella is represented by Hellie Ogden, who just happens to be judging
the BPA
First Novel Award this year. She and Kiran Millwood
Hargrave can't wait to read your entries, and submissions are open until 31st
May.
It was thrilling to hear that BPA First Novel Award entrant Carole Hailey signed with Marina de Pass
from The Soho Agency following an introduction from BPA's Emma
Haynes. Marina is also now representing Sophie Keetch, an editorial client
who recently worked with Fiona Mitchell on her stunning manuscript.
Another of our editorial clients, Damhnait Monaghan, is anticipating
the release of her debut novel New
Girl in Little Cove, out in Canada on 2nd March and in
the USA on 11th May, and you can watch her first look at the cover here.

Emma Darwin Events
We've enjoyed two wonderfully practical Zoom
tutorials with author and writing teacher Emma Darwin
so far this year, and she is back this Thursday with a craft
tutorial on plot and structure.

|
We have
also recently announced a new event with Emma Darwin, 'Pitch Your Novel: Cover Letters and Synopses.'
If you're planning to submit to literary agents any time soon (or
enter the BPA First Novel Award) this will be a great opportunity
to get practical tips on perfecting your submission package.
