Our February Pick
What a
treat we have for you this month! For the very first time we'll
discuss a current, contemporary novel, and we couldn't think of a
better way to start. Our February pick is The Mermaid of Black
Conch by Monique Roffey, recently chosen as the Costa
Book Awards 'Book of the Year'.
Thanks to our generous friends at Peepal Tree Press,
Bradford Libraries will shortly receive a donation of 15 copies
of this fantastic book, ensuring that BLF Book Club members
across the district have access to this award-winnning
novel.

Join us as we journey back in time to April 1976: St
Constance, a tiny Caribbean village on the island of Black Conch
where fisherman, David, floats in his pirogue. As he waits for a
catch, David sings to himself – but soon he attracts a sea-dweller he
did not expect. Aycayia, a beautiful young woman cursed by jealous
wives to live as a mermaid, has been swimming the Caribbean Sea for
centuries, and she is entranced by this man David and his song.
