Cleckheaton Writers Group minutes, meeting Monday 18 January

The latest CWG meeting took place at 5.45pm on Zoom on Monday 18 January 2021 with Alice, Gemma and Karen in attendance, Daniel, Sarah, Andrea and Sam having passed on their apologies.

There were no new members to welcome and the minutes from the last meeting were passed.

WIP updates: Karen had submitted to RMLiterary and recieved a rejection from them since the last meeting. She has also edited her picture book (but following feedback has more work to do), written several new chapters of her current WIP (currently at 59k words) and submitted for an agent 1-2-1 at the GEA Honkference (for details see events section below). Alice had also submitted for an agent 1-2-1 at the GEA Honkference and has been working on her sequel, including taking part in sprints (in 45 minutes she can achieve 1500 words on her laptop). Gemma had also received a rejection but from Jericho Writers and won't apply again. She decided to enter the Discoveries Prize and submitted 20 minutes before the deadline, plus she has read the book and synopsis for review for her friend. She has also been researching the TV programme The Victorian Slum for her current WIP and was fascinated to find out the origins of the word hangover.

Feedback sessions: No-one had circulated anything for feedback.

CW comps/workshops/events: Karen informed members about the podcasts Marian Keyes was running on a Monday evening on Instagram. The GEA Honkference runs this coming weekend and free tickets for the workshop can be found at www.geahonkference.com/ Gemma mentioined the CBC mentoring competition https://www.curtisbrowncreative.co.uk/the-breakthrough-writers-programme/ and that the NYALit Festival was available to view on Youtube www.nyalitfest.wordpress.com/programme.
