Hi everyone,
The nights are drawing in and it's
starting to get a bit parky in South Leeds, which can only mean one
thing, it's time for the Cultural Community College's Autumn Term.
And although some of it will still be online - due to that actually
working really well - we will also be welcoming you back to The
Holbeck, yay! And...drumroll...taking some of you to the Slung
Low Wood - double yay!
As always, we have an eclectic mix to tickle your learning muscles.
First up, the Slung
Low Choir will be restarting its weekly sessions on
Zoom THIS Tuesday 15th September so get signed up quick-sharp!
Only you will hear you sing so don't worry if you're no
songbird; belt it out like nobody's listening. Then later in
the month, we will take a couple of small groups into the wood for some open fire pewter casting:
turning base-metal into charms. We will then move back online for five
weekly signing sessions to learn
basic British Sign Language.
In October we will take more of you into the wood to explore and understand woodlands: how
healthy it currently is as an ecosystem and habitat. Fear not, there will
be a campfire! A week later, come to The Holbeck and make bat boxes:
we will take one to the wood and you can take the other home. As always,
no experience necessary for any of the classes. And we provide
everything!
During this whole time, the choir will continue to sing (with the odd
pause for breath)!!
We start November with college favourite, South Indian Vegetarian Cooking. And
you can come cook in our Concert Room, like the good old days! However,
due to popular demand, we will also be sharing this session online so you
can once again cook along at home. Then we will be rounding off the
term with some digital light illusion as we learn how to make holograms,
culminating in a mini exhibition at The Holbeck.
Oh, and our choir will still be singing, even into December. And
taking part in a very special performance. (But that news is for another
time.)
Come and get involved this term and try something new. To view
the full programme, with course information, visit the college page of the Slung Low
website here.
If there's something missing that you'd desperately love to try, drop us
a line and we'll try fit it into future plans.
The Cultural Community College is based at The Holbeck, the oldest former
working men’s club in the country, now a community club in South
Leeds that welcomes everyone. Capacities
are limited so reserve your place early. You pay
what you decide after taking part.
As ever you can keep in touch with us via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. And if you have any questions please don't
hesitate to contact us on college@slunglow.org or call us on 07305
155698.
We look forward to seeing you at the club, in the wood or
online soon.
